1. Summary Statement: State the major function(s) of the position and its role in the
university. Attach an organizational chart with positions, ranges, and names for the division
which reflects the position in it as well as those supervised in the department. (This section is
used for advertisement of the position.)
The Director of Redfield Campus is responsible for updating, implementing and refining the Redfield
Campus long-term strategic vision and overseeing the staff and operation of the Redfield Campus
with final approval by the Provost. The individual develops collaborative relationships within the
Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE), business/industry and the community for mutual benefit
and participation in developing Redfield Campus—both growing programs and financial support. The
Director is responsible for budget preparation, day-to-day operations of the Campus, report writing,
oversight of accounting functions and for interacting with students, community members, donors and
faculty and staff at all levels of the University. The position reports to the Vice Provost of Extended
Studies.

50% - Redfield Campus Operations Management
 Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Campus including special projects
 Supervise all activities necessary for the operation of the Redfield Campus to include
completing performance evaluations, scheduling work and delegating job responsibilities, as
well as determining staffing levels and developing work assignments
 Hire and train classified staff and student employees
 Conduct on-going evaluation of effective service delivery of staff with feedback and training
 Establish and maintain internal policies and procedures for administrative activities
 Mentor team for improved performance, to maintain high morale, and for succession planning
and to prepare them for professional growth opportunities
 Conduct needs assessments
30% - Redfield Campus Outreach
 Continually review, evaluate, and assess current programs viability and update and revise
programs as needed
 Maintain and nurture high-level relationships with key business and community leaders to
ensure Redfield Campus grows in a direction necessary to meet community needs which
involves working with three Redfield Campus advisory boards composed of University of
Nevada, Reno (UNR) and Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC) faculty and Redfield
Foundation members
 Provide continual development, implementation and monitoring of the long-term strategic plan
with input from all constituents, including university administration, staff, faculty and students,
business/industry, state government officials and Redfield advisory groups. develop and
maintain of a Redfield Campus marketing plan
 Provide continual development and cultivation of relationships within the university and other
NSHE institutions, organizations, businesses for the mutual benefit of the Redfield Campus;
maintain strong relationships with the Extended Studies colleagues to promote and offer
certificate programs and classes at the Campus
 Collaborate with staff and faculty of Extended Studies and other administrative units to identify
opportunities and develop solutions to problems and issues
 Serve on university and community committees

Keep current on opportunities/changes in local and national trends in professional
development, management, training, and leadership through conferences, professional
societies, newsletters, and journals
15% - Budget and Technology Infrastructure Management
 Maintain the Redfield Campus operating budget
 Review and analyze monthly financial reports
 Develop projections and ensure that the budget, budget revisions, and/or budget requests, are
correct and submitted within the established time frames
 Establish and monitor financial performance goals for the Redfield Campus
 Develop plans for capital acquisitions
 Develop and monitor leases / contracts
 Implement IT work plans and initiatives
 Ensure Redfield Campus student and open labs are in compliance with UNR Information
Technology (IT) rules and regulations
5% - Fundraising
 In coordination with central development, initiate and participate in securing gifts and grants to
the Redfield Campus which includes the identification of potential donors, cultivation of donors,
writing funding proposals and presentations to donors and organizations. Duties include
recording all cultivation activity as “Action” in Raisers Edge database. Annual evaluation
regarding this area of position description to be done in consultation with the Vice President of
Development and Alumni Relations
 Serve as steward of all donations and gifts received at the Redfield Campus
 In coordination with university events plan events to show case the campus and involve
friends and donors
 Work with government and private agencies to partner on grant opportunities
3. Describe the level of freedom to take action and make decisions with or without
supervision and how the results of the work performed impact the department, division and/or
the university as a whole.
Level of Freedom:
Decisions and judgments made and undertaken by incumbent set the tone for the learning experience
and success of operations at the Redfield campus. For example, the Director determines and sets
policies and procedures for operations and high customer service by employees and staff at the
facility. The incumbent is responsible for safety and security of employees and students and is the
primary contact for emergencies on site. The Director works as a partner with TMCC staff and its
students and with external university customers using the facility. The incumbent must work with
limited supervision at an outlying physical location from supervisor and with considerable latitude for
initiative and independent judgment.
Impact:
The incumbent establishes standards and makes hiring decisions that directly affect campus activities
and ultimately the satisfaction of the students and community and the University’s ability to grow the
Redfield Campus. The safety of the students and employees of the campus as well as the quality of
the education provided may also be negatively impacted.
