1. Summary Statement: State the major function(s) of the position and its role in the
university. Attach an organizational chart with positions, ranges, and names for the division
which reflects the position in it as well as those supervised in the department. (This section is
used for advertisement of the position.)
The Director, Digital Media Technology, manages digital media technology projects, services,
resources, and personnel. The unit provides the campus community access to state-of-the-art media
production hardware, software, computing, studio, and personnel offering direct or indirect support of
projects fulfilling the University’s educational, research, and outreach mission. Additionally, the
Director oversees and supervises campus events utilizing event technology personnel and services.
The position provides leadership with regional promotional and educational outreach efforts for the
University and University Libraries Division. The Digital Media Technology Manager reports to the
Dean of Libraries.

55% - Management of Knowledge Center Digital Media Production and Event Facilities
 In collaboration with senior University Libraries staff, formulates long-term strategic plans and
initiatives, in the areas of Information Technology, Instructional Technology, and Digital Media
Technology
 Develop and implement daily operating policies and procedures for the Knowledge Center’s
@One area
 Serve as liaison between the University Libraries and various campus individuals, departments
and committees on matters concerning the utilization of digital media technology including
events and Knowledge Center technology resources
 Serve as a principal liaison with Information Technologies (IT) in pursuit of University Libraries
goals and objectives
 Manage and implement budgets based on strategic and operating goals and objectives
 Schedule work and assign tasks based on University and University Libraries goals and
priorities
 Review and implement current copyright and fair use interpretations as they relate to library
content as well as media creation and utilization
 Supervise and evaluate professional and temporary staff and student employees
30% - Project Management
 Supervise the development and execution of campus technology initiatives with regard to
communications, media, event, and instructional technology
 Supervise the production of campus events
 Develop policies for preserving library and digital assets.
 Manage various library and campus digital assets including communication, streaming, and
mass storage devices by determining approach, budget and collaborating with IT to determine
best use of resources and maintain asset inventories.
 Develop and manage project budgets and logistics
 Serve as project leader on group projects and monitor quality of work
 Assess needs, working with administrative and academic units, to determine the most viable
technology to achieve project goals
10% - Digital Media Technology Outreach Coordination
 Consult and provide leadership in the area of digital media technology for state, federal, and
local governmental agencies

Seek out partnerships with local community entities that are mutually beneficial and showcase
University and Knowledge Center features
Consult with regional business and industry groups in support of University and University
Libraries development goals
Provide ambassadorial presence for both the campus and larger community on issues relating
to technology
Insure that the University is represented well in international/national/regional media products
Liaise with external media production entities working on campus or with University related
themes
5% - Training, Instruction, and Research Relating to Digital Media Technology
 Supervise the development of digital media production instructional material
 Oversee the development of curriculum and teach classes and workshops on digital media
technology
 Consult with faculty and recommend curricular elements for classes and academic programs
 Provide individualized, project based training designed to fulfill specific research or educational
goals
 Evaluate and recommend emerging technologies particularly in the media/communications
field
3. Describe the level of freedom to take action and make decisions with or without
supervision and how the results of the work performed impact the department, division and/or
the university as a whole.
Level of Freedom:
As a member of the University Libraries senior management team, the incumbent works
collaboratively on strategic planning, policy and service plan development, and similar activities. In the
development and completion of digital media productions, working with clients, and developing
training and instruction, the position has considerable latitude for initiative and independent judgment
under a variety of circumstances and environments. The Director consults with the Dean, University
Libraries, on long-term goals and future projects of the unit.
Impact:
As a principal representative of University Libraries, judgments, assessments, and actions impact the
campus’ and regional communities’ impression of this division. Performance directly impacts
development, funding, and other support implications. Additionally, independent management
decisions impact the daily operations of the means and methods for serving our principal
constituency. Participation in management groups sets long-term directions and goals of the
University Libraries Division, having impact on future students, faculty, and staff.
