1. Summary Statement: State the major function(s) of the position and its role in the
university. Attach an organizational chart with positions, ranges, and names for the division
which reflects the position in it as well as those supervised in the department. (This section is
used for advertisement of the position.)
The Director, Career Services in the College of Business (COB), is responsible for facilitating
corporate and business recruiting, coordination of recruiting opportunities with graduating students,
and collaboration with appropriate faculty regarding recruiting. The Director collaborates with the
college alumni association to insure that alumni are made aware of career opportunities, meets with
student groups in COB to distribute information regarding career opportunities, and works with
potential employers as they recruit students and to identify/facilitate funding opportunities. The
incumbent completes regularly scheduled surveys of students, alumni, and employers to provide
feedback regarding success and value of college recruiting activities. The Director identifies funding
opportunities to contribute to success of career services offered students. The Director reports directly
to the Dean of the College of Business (COB).

45% - Career Development Program Administration
 Assist students and alumni in career exploration, resume writing, interviewing and job search
skills leading to preparation for the professional business world
 Supervise classified staff, students, and volunteer staff who are providing student assistance
for information on internships, and job placement
 Coordinate and recruit internships through interaction with students, business community and
faculty advisors
 Help identify hiring needs of community businesses
 Fulfill business specific needs through recruiting on-campus, position announcements, and
student-faculty-community interaction and coordination
 Oversee Corporate Partners program whereby companies fund recruiting programs while
being spotlighted as an organization
 Facilitate corporate partnerships and encourage funding of internships and programs
25% - Liaison/Public Relations
 Cultivate potential recruitment and position opportunities by serving in a liaison/public relations
capacity with college boards which include COB Advisory Board, COB Alumni Association,
and Career Services Advisory Board
 Serve on community boards as a representative of COB
 Facilitate alumni association activities including meeting management, financial management
and event management
 Chair and coordinate the Student council meetings and activities providing the students with a
voice to the college administration
 Oversee student council sponsored events
 Assign and monitor students in the distribution of monthly target emails to students and alumni
for networking and campus activities (i.e., Business Week, Honors and Awards Banquet,
career internships, job boards, career fairs, etc.)
20% - Policies and Procedures Administration
 Develop administrative policies and procedures to maintain the internal framework of the
placement function Including a tracking database and an active student and employer
database

Develop and maintain alumni database tracking the success of students after graduation
10% - University-Wide Career Event Coordination
 Plan, manage and oversee Career and Internship Fair in conjunction with Student Union
 Oversee job board for off-campus job postings
 Coordinate and oversee career preparation events, including Competitive Edge
 Collect revenues, make deposits, and track and balance several budgets/accounts
3. Describe the level of freedom to take action and make decisions with or without
supervision and how the results of the work performed impact the department, division and/or
the university as a whole.
Level of Freedom:
The Director works closely with the Dean, but has autonomy to make decisions related to career and
recruitment programs that are consistent with the College’s strategic plan. When donation and/or
funding are involved, the Director works closely with the assigned Development & Alumni Relations
representative and follows appropriate documentation procedures for donors and prospective donors.
The Director is responsible for a high level of coordination and communication related to universitywide events.
Impact:
The Director strengthens alliances with existing and new business community members with the
scope of the local business community expanding to include national and international entities. This
position is very visible to students and the public and therefore has a direct impact on the perception
of the university and college and its reputation. This enlarged view of the community which includes
national and international entities enhances the quality placement of our graduates and assessment
of programs.
