1. Summary Statement: State the major function(s) of the position and its role in the
university. Attach an organizational chart with positions, ranges, and names for the division
which reflects the position in it as well as those supervised in the department. (This section is
used for advertisement of the position.)
The Coordinator, Nevada Media Alliance leads the process of providing student-produced content to
Nevada Media Alliance partners such as KNPB, KUNR and Reno Gazette Journal. The Coordinator
works closely with these news organizations and students to produce authoritative and accurate
content on a wide range of subjects and teaches relevant courses. The Coordinator oversees the
workflow from assignments to writers to the process of offering this multimedia content to the media
partners. The Coordinator must establish achievable production schedules and oversee day-to-day
operations. Development and maintenance of editorial, publishing and digital procedures and
specifications for text, images, dynamic media, and other resources are the responsibility of the
incumbent. The position reports to the Dean, Reynolds School of Journalism (RSJ).

30% - Editorial Management
 Coordinate and plan the Nevada Media Alliance program
 Oversee student contributions and direct editorial content, layout, design and production, and
multimedia content
 Assist in creation and editing of multimedia
 Work with faculty and media partners to identify needs and interests
 Conceptualize, implement and update editorial plans for Nevada Media Alliance to ensure
alignment with partner needs
 Supervise workflow of students and provide instructional feedback on content
 Conduct regular meetings with students
30% - Partner Liaison
 Work collaboratively with Nevada Media Alliance partners
 Coordinate student efforts with instructional faculty
 Report on effectiveness and contributions on a quarterly/annual basis
 Work collaboratively with the Director of Development to support development efforts to raise
funds
 Solicit new partners
20% - Production Scheduling and Supervision
 Establish production schedules
 Work with students to assign multimedia projects and ensure coverage and production of
articles and broadcasts needed
 Oversee all aspects of day-to-day operations
 Develop and execute a news and features plan highlighting important events, speeches and
activities in the community
 Oversee Nevada Media Alliance web content updates and maintenance
20% - Teaching
 Teach approximately one course per semester, but teaching load may vary year to year

3. Describe the level of freedom to take action and make decisions with or without

the university as a whole.
Level of Freedom:
The Coordinator works autonomously within set program parameters to seek and implement the
needs of the partnership. The Coordinator makes decisions about work assignments , develops
strategies to improve student success and in establishes a rapport with the media partners.
Impact:
The Coordinator has primary responsibility to oversee student efforts to produce accurate and
informative content for media partners. This cooperative project will provide educational opportunities
for students and broader reach of media coverage for the Nevada Media Alliance partners. The
quality of submissions to partners affects the continued funding of the program, student progress and
ability of partners to meet their goals. The decisions and judgments impact the success of the
program.

Knowledge of:
 Editing
 All phases of the multimedia production cycle, including planning, editorial writing, graphic
design and printing
 Associated Press style guidelines
 Legal, ethical considerations behind photography, content, etc.
 Survey techniques
 Photography and other visuals in the success of printed materials
 Web content management system (CMS) such as WordPress
