Summary Statement: State the major function(s) of the position and its role in the university. The Coordinator, Internships and Career Support, for the College of Engineering (COE) works closely with the Associate Dean, the Dean, the Development Officer, and all departments within COE as well as other campus departments. This position represents COE at internship and educational events both on and off campus. The individual is responsible for developing relationships with industry in the interest of establishing internship programs and exploring employment opportunities (after graduation) for engineering students. Additionally, this individual assists students with resumes and internship searches. The Coordinator reports to the Associate Dean, COE. 2. List the major responsibilities, including percentage of time devoted to each. Provide enough detail to enable a person outside the department to understand the job (percentage first with heading and then bulleted information). 50% - Internship/Employment Program Locate and develop internship/employment opportunities with employers locally, regionally and nationally Regularly meet with employers to establish relationships and assess employers’ internship and employment needs Recommend students to hiring managers based on student interview assessments Communicate COE internship expectations to employers Work with department chairs and faculty (department liaisons) in recruiting students for internships and employment Develop student participation requirements and a system to enforce the program requirements Implement assessment of the program and necessary changes Attend Dean’s staff meetings, COE faculty meetings, and departments and chairs meetings as needed 25% - Student Career Support Train and coach students on resume building, resume writing, and interviewing techniques including reviewing resumes of students Provide pre-internship training to students Assist students in obtaining credit or transcript notation for internships 15% - Career Fair/Interview Coordination Work with employers and Student Union/College of Business for job fairs including establishing an annual or bi-annual COE Career/Internship Fair with participation of local, regional and national organizations Coordinate with employers to schedule on-site interviews 10% - Communication Implement/maintain/update a presence on the COE website Coordinate with employers and student professional societies for guest lectures, tours, etc. Create promotional methods and materials communicating and/or advertising the internship/employment program Maintain a database of current, accurate, and reliable information on all students enrolled in the COE Position Description - Coordinator, Internship and Career Support (COE) Page 3 3. Describe the level of freedom to take action and make decisions with or without supervision and how the results of the work performed impact the department, division and/or the university as a whole. Level of Freedom: The Coordinator has freedom to make decisions on the day-to-day activities of the position, including the initiation and maintenance of industry outreach contacts. The Coordinator provides input to the Associate Dean and Dean of COE on overall policy decisions, such as (but not limited to) determination of criteria for the award of internships and outreach activities and programs. Impact: Contact with the wider community (companies, students, parents, prospective students, community leaders, etc.) will open lines of communication, which will enhance the reputation with COE stakeholders. Within this larger community the Coordinator must be familiar with research, educational and outreach directions of the College. Failure to complete these duties will result in reduced internship and employment (upon graduation) opportunities for students, potential delays in graduation and harm the reputation of COE and the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR). 4.
