Description: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force
frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary
work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.

The Coordinator, Academics and Education, is located within the Sanford Center for Aging and is
responsible for the day to day management of the academic and community education programs
within the GAP. The individual teaches, manages grants, develops meaningful and relevant student
gerontology field experiences, and secures Memorandums of Understanding at relevant service
learning sites. Further, the individual develops and maintains positive relationships with community
partners, is responsible for the promotion and marketing of GAP educational offerings, serves on
the Interdisciplinary Courses and Curriculum Committee, and collaborates in the ongoing
development of innovative programs that expand academic and community education offerings of
the GAP.
The Coordinator reports to the Associate Director, Academics and Education.

60% - GAP Community Programs Coordination
 Coordinate community related educational offerings (e.g., chronic disease self-management
(CDSME), and continuing education programs) to specific target audiences such as faculty,
residents, health care professionals, students, and community members
 Partners with community organizations involved in related fields and gerontology to support
both service learning and new programing related partnerships
 Identify opportunities for gerontolocial education among related fields, and community
education
 Advance interest in gerontology and geriatric education and services through personal
contacts with faculty and staff, community health care professionals, agencies,
organizations and others involved in the aging network
 Serve on the Interdisciplinary Gerontology Courses and Curriculum Committee and at least
one sub-committee to inform ongoing development and revision of existing academic
offerings

20% - GAP Academic Coordination
 Support GAP program, including oversight of course information dissemination, catalog
update, course data collection, and assessment/evaluation of the program
 Advise prospective and current undergraduate students in the gerontology certificate and
minor program
 Supervise GAP program Ambassador and student worker(s) as applicable
 Participate in the development of federal, state, or foundation grant proposals and
demonstration projects that contribute to the SCA and GAP mission
20% - Teaching
 Responsible for teaching at least one Gerontology course each semester
 Development of Gerontology courses as needed
 Provide gerontological course content or serves as a guest lecturer for instructors
requesting inclusion of gerontology information
 Serves as faculty advisor to the Associated Students of Gerontology Club

The Coordinator is given authority to make independent decisions and judgements in completing
the daily job responsibilities of the position within established policies and procedures. For instance
tasks such as the scheduling of course offerings, implementation of outreach strategies and
marketing for educational programs, and negotiating and scheduling CDSME workshops and
trainings, negotiating and developing community relationships for service learning and civic
engagement can be completed independently. The incumbent reports actions to and consults with
Academic Director on overall program deliverables and concerns.

typically takes to the supervisor for resolution and/or consultation. If a line of progression,
describe the supervisory consultation at the highest level.
More complex issues or problems that arise with student academic success and which affect the
outcomes or success of the program’s mission are discussed with the Academic Director of GAP
before taking action. If there are changes needed to the overall program implementation, these
actions would also be discussed with the Academic Director. A final review of all funding requests
will be done and approved by the Academic Director and SCA Director before submittal.

Schedule or Travel Requirements:
 A valid Nevada Driver’s License or ability to obtain one within four weeks of
appointment
