Summary Statement: State the major function(s) of the position and its role in the university. Attach an organizational chart with positions, ranges, and names for the division which reflects the position in it as well as those supervised in the department. (This section is used for advertisement of the position.) The Associate Dean of the College of Business assists the Dean in all matters relating to administration of the College. In particular, the Associate Dean aids in the direction of curriculum and program development at both the graduate and undergraduate levels and is responsible for a wide variety of activities related to student concerns, including academic progress, scholarships, advocacy, recruitment, and retention. The Associate Dean is expected to work with the Dean to plan, promote, and develop innovative practices across the College and to enhance an environment that supports academic excellence. 2. List the major responsibilities, including percentage of time devoted to each. Provide enough detail to enable a person outside the department to understand the job (percentage first with heading and then bulleted information). 45% - Masters in Business Administration (MBA) Program Management Direct the MBA program including curriculum development, assessment, recruitment, orienation, and updates of the program’s website Coordinate the program with other graduate programs in the College in terms of curriculum and scheduling 35% - College Accreditation Management Manage and oversee the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) accreditation Supervise annual survey required by AACSB and the completion of full business maintenance accreditation report for AACSB 10% - Student Affairs and Advising Staff Management Address student concerns in consultation with Department Chairs, including grade appeals, exceptions, and complaints Supervise the College Advisement Center, promotion of College, recruitment and retention of students, review of class schedule and grade changes Act as liaison with Scholarship and other Student Services oriented committees 5% - Curriculum and Program Development Represent the College on the University Courses and Curriculum Committee 5% - Resource Needs Management Evaluate and coordinate resource needs of the College for information technology and classrooms 3. Level of Freedom: The Associate Dean makes decisions and undertakes actions with little or no supervision. The position plays a critical role in preparing the accreditation report for the College of Business. The Position Description – Associate Dean, Business Page 3 Associate Dean works with the College staff of the Advisement Center and the Department Chairs on recruitment for COBA. Impact: If the Associate Dean performs the accreditation work in a professional manner, then the College of Business will maintain its accreditation. If the accreditation work is not done correctly, then the College could be placed on probation or lose its accreditation entirely. If the recruitment plans are done well, the College will maintain a healthy enrollment base. If the recruitment plans are not done well, the College will face the possibility to lose resources. The judgments of the Associate Dean affect the image of the College and its departments among current and prospective students and among colleagues elsewhere in the University; the educational experience of individual students in the College, particularly with regard to their program of study and resolution of problems related to their studies; the working relationships of staff within the Dean's office; the involvement of various faculty and students in the work of the College; the way the College relates to the rest of the University in areas such as curriculum, student services, Core issues, and student scholarships; and, the nature of various issues, ideas, and projects presented to the Dean for his/her decision. 4. Describe the knowledge, skills (to include cognitive requirement and verbal and written communication), and abilities (to include task complexity, problem solving, creativity and innovation) essential to successful performance of this job (in bullet format).
