1. Summary Statement: State the major function(s) of the position and its role in the
university. Attach an organizational chart with positions, ranges, and names for the division
which reflects the position in it as well as those supervised in the department. (This section is
used for advertisement of the position.)
The Assistant Director is the primary service provider to students who qualify for ADA and Section
504 accommodations offered through the Disability Resource Center (DRC). Under the supervision of
the DRC Director, the Assistant Director arranges for approved accommodations for DRC students
including note taking services, auxiliary aids, alternative media and the use of assistive technology.
The Assistant director also assists in the development and implementation of appropriate assessment
tools in the evaluation of DRC programs and services, and supervises and evaluates DRC staff
persons directly reporting to the Assistant Director.
2. List the major responsibilities, including percentage of time devoted to each. Provide
enough detail to enable a person outside the department to understand the job (percentage

20% - Conducts DRC intakes including review and completion of student contracts and release forms,
and maintains current student records regarding eligibility and use of DRC services
15% - Facilitates the interpretation and implementation of professional verifications and learning
strategies for students with disabilities
15% - Assists in the development and implementation of appropriate assessment tools in the
evaluation of DRC programs and services
15% - Supervises and evaluates DRC staff persons directly reporting to the Assistant Director
including the DRC Assitive Technology Specialist, interpreters for the Deaf, classified employees and
alternative media processors
10% - DevelopsDRC policy related to the administration and provision of academic accommodations
for students with disabilities. Facilitate the provision of auxiliary aid accommodations
10% - Enhances assistive and adaptive technologies for UNR students with disabilities
10% - Develops professional initiatives to support inclusion of students with disabilities on campus
and in the community
5% - Collaborates with the School District, the Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation and other
community organizations and agencies with regard to outreach for UNR students with disabilities
3. Describe the level of freedom to take action and make decisions with or without
supervision and how the results of the work performed impact the department, division and/or
the university as a whole.
The decisions and judgments made by the Assistant Director and the result of the work performed by
the Assistant Director directly affect the persistence rate of students with disabilities seeking DRC
services. In addition, the Assistant Director assists the Director to ensure campus compliance with
the American with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.

4. Describe the knowledge, skills (to include cognitive requirement and verbal and written
communication), and abilities (to include task complexity, problem solving, creativity &

Typewell Transcriber - Collaboration in providing appropriate accommodations and support services

Minimum educational level, including appropriate field, if any.
Master's Degree from a regionally accredited institution in counseling, psychology,
education, special education or related field with emphasis in learning and/or
psychological disabilities
b.
Minimum type and amount of work experience, in addition to the above required
education necessary for a person entering this position.
Master’s Degree and two years of experience in working with adults with various
disabilities in an educational setting; understanding and using psycho-educational and
psychological assessment information to make decisions about reasonable
accommodations including auxiliary aids and services, as defined by Section 504 of the
1973 Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) for qualified
adults with disabilities
