Summary Statement: State the major function(s) of the position and its role in the university. The Strength and Conditioning staff in the Intercollegiate Athletics Department (ICA) at the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) is responsible for oversight and maintenance of all facets of the strength, conditioning, and nutrition program and its facility. The staff provides assistance to all sports programs using state-of-the-art strength and conditioning methods for all student-athletes. Methods include weight training, speed and conditioning training, proper nutrition, and other pertinent training methods to promote proper conditioning and lessen the opportunity for injury. The individuals act as a representative for UNR to promote the university and ICA in a positive light within the community, the State of Nevada, and nation-wide. Range 1 - Assistant Director The Assistant Director reports to and assists the Associate Director in all aspects of a competitive Division IA strength and conditioning program as well as assisting the ICA staff if necessary. The position coordinates and supervises the work activities of interns and student workers. Range 2 – Associate Director (AD) (in addition to above): The Associate Director reports to and assists the Assistant Athletics Director in overall program administration and operations and works with assigned individual sports coaches, athletic trainers, and doctors to develop and implement nutritional education programs and modified and/or rehabilitative strength programs tailored to each particular sport. The AD supervises the Assistant Director(s). Range 3 – Assistant Athletics Director (AAD) (in addition to above): The Assistant Athletics Director is directly responsible for all aspects of a competitive Division IA Strength, and Conditioning program. The individual is responsible for the overall program administration and operations and works with individual sports coaches, athletic trainers, and doctors and oversees development and implementation of nutritional education programs and modified and/or rehabilitative strength programs tailored to each particular sport. The Director supervises activities in the facilities, oversees the day-to-day operations of sport scheduling, and provides supervision of staff and student worker monitoring to ensure proper use of equipment and training methods and to promote student-athlete safety. Individual is responsible for assessing and maintaining the facility and equipment to ensure athlete safety. The position reports to the Director, Intercollegiate Athletics. 2. Level of Freedom: Ranges 1 and 2: Athletics is one of the most publicly visible programs on campus. To have student-athletes in the best possible condition speaks directly to the department goals of providing the best sports programs/ facilities/training methods available to offer the best chance for success. It is essential that the integrity of Wolf Pack Athletics be maintained. The program must be in compliance with current NCAA and Conference rules and regulations and non-adherence or non-compliance results in ineligibility to play in NCAA and Conference athletics. Range 1 and 2 positions establish training programs under approved standards and are reviewed by supervisor. Range 3: The Range 3 Assistant Athletics Director reviews and monitors all training programs and supervises assistants to ensure proper procedures, including safety, are done appropriately. Impact The decisions and judgments made by the incumbents and the results of work performed have a major impact on ICA, UNR, and Conference. Decisions and judgments have a critical impact in that the conditioning and training background of all student-athletes is imperative for best performance and the elimination of injuries. Unacceptable behavior and positive behavior on and off the field by coaches and athletes is highly visible and reflects on the program, athletic department and university. 4.
