Programming Principles I
Course Overview
Course Overview
• The course will be delivered in a hybrid mode.
• All sections will follow a common syllabus.
• All sections will work similar Programming Assignments.
• Individual sections may use different Lab Exercises.
• Lectures will be recorded and posted for review before coming
to the class.
Common Syllabus
• Highlights the course design (hybrid Mode).
• States course leaning outcomes.
• Lists covered topics (chapters from the textbook).
• Outlines assessment (grading) criteria:
– Labs, Assignments, Quizzes, and Attendance (50%)
Your instructor will discuss with you the break down of points along
with other policies specific to your section.
– Three tests: Test 1 (15%), Test 2 (15%), and Final Exam (20%)
• Provides weekly course schedule.
Lecture Recordings
• Lectures will be recorded and posted for all to review before
coming to class.
• You are required to:
– download and review lecture recordings and slides on their own
before attending their designated class meetings.
– meet with their instructors in class as scheduled to work on labs,
homework assignments, and other course work.

Note that a single chapter may be divided into multiple recordings.
Lab Exercises
• Lab exercises are posted on the course webpage.
• Your instructor may use additional or modified lab exercises.
• Your instructor will specify the submission instructions for your
lab exercises.
• Your instructor will help you in class to work the lab exercises.
• Lab exercises are designed to prepare you to work the
homework assignments on your own outside the class.
• A lab must be completed before working the corresponding
homework assignments. The assignment will not be graded if
the corresponding lab is not completed.
Homework Assignments
• All students are required to work the same homework
programming assignments.
• All programming assignments will be posted on the course
webpage.
• The due date and submission instructions will be provided by
your instructor.
• Tutoring service will be provided by the CS Department.

• The common syllabus for all sections is posted on the course

• Your instructor will provide and/or post a revised version of the
course syllabus with additional information for your section
stating his/her policies for the course, such as attendance
policy, labs and assignments submission policy, quizzes policy,
and others. Please check with your instructor.
• Your instructor may use a different webpage to post course
materials for your section. Please check with your instructor.
