Law Student from LSU a. Advice: i. Take the LSAT more than once 1. Start studying early 1. Start a month early 2. Come up with a routine and stick to it 3. Continue to look at LSAT materials up until it is time to take it ii. Studying for the LSAT: 1. Take a lot of practice tests 2. Only section that you can ace is the games section iii. Application process for Law school: a. If you are in the 160s, don’t try to apply to schools like Harvard b. Pick a few schools that are out of your league iv. Law school 1. First year 1. Spend your free time studying/catching up on the day’s assignments i. Time management is key 2. You start learning about the different areas of law such as corporate, environmental, etc. i. You have no control over what classes you take your first year 1. LSU requires their students to take a writing class 3. Hardest part of your first year: reading a case 4. Treat law school as you would a job 2. Do your homework 1. Reading cases, making outlines 2. Know what is talked about in class before you go 3. Throughout the semester: 1. Keep up with the readings 2. As it gets closer to finals, start preparing an outline 4. The teachers 1. Are more open and available to helping their students compared to undergraduate students 5. The grading for Law school 1. First year is generally a 2.6 i. Grading is the most important your first year of law school 2. Grading is based off of a bell curve 6. Summer: LSU in France or clerkships 1. Some try to boost their resumes my doing clerkships at law firms i. A law firm evaluates your work as a “clerk” and if they like you, they may hire you when you graduate 2. Also, LSU has a requirement that everyone must take summer school at some point 7. MBA/JD program at LSU 1. He wouldn’t recommend it, only because you won’t be able to put in as much time as you would have you just gone to law school i. Try to pick one or the other v. Life after Law school 1. General rule: go to school where you would like to practice afterwards 1. But, you can go anywhere
