Law School Admission Trends: There has been a recent increase in those taking the LSAT and applications to law schools in general. LSAT scores have increased in competitiveness. Possible motives: BAD ECONOMY, people who graduate from a 4year program are having a hard time finding work so become interested in practicing law because a particular degree is not required for acceptance to Law School. PREPARE for COMPETITION! Skills the LSAT tests: Language Logic Reading Comprehension Tip: Pick a degree that helps develop those tested areas. They are helpful skills to succeed in practicing law. Other Advice: Reach out to a Pre-Law Advisor and keep a time-line in mind of when it is optimal to take the LSAT and apply to school. There is an advantage to applying earlier on. Beware of EARLY DECISION PERIODS: if you apply to a law school early decision (usually prior to October) and are accepted, you are obligated to attend that school. Make sure it is the one you want. In October, Rolling Admissions begin. Check the particular school you are interested in for specific deadlines (also deadlines that place your application in consideration for financial aid). Make sure your application is FLAWLESS and EARLY LSAT Exam Consists of: Logic Reasoning I and II, Logic Games, Reading Comprehension, an Experimental Section, and Writing Sample. The writing sample is not scored but it can kill an application if writing skills are poor. Pace yourself: Each section is timed, no penalty for wrong answers, and wear an analog watch to keep track (digital is not allowed). DO NOT practice the LSAT by taking the real exam! Most law schools will accept the best score, some average. It also cost approximately $130 per exam.
