Child and Family Traumatic Stress Intervention
Dear Parent/Caregiver,
Welcome to Family Services of Greater Waterbury! We are pleased you have made the decision to
participate in our CFTSI program. We are excited to be a part of your family’s healing process.
The focus of this treatment with both you and your child will be to:
Assist you and your child in the development of ongoing strategies for traumatic stress reactions
Increase your child’s ability to communicate feelings and symptoms to parents.
Assist you and your child in the identification of feelings and how to manage them
Increase your ability to observe and assist with the child’s behavioral symptoms of distress
Some common worries parents and caretakers may have after their child has
experienced a trauma
Will we ever recover emotionally?
How can I help my child manage their behaviors and/or fears?
How much should I talk to my child about what happened?
All these concerns and more will be answered for you by your CFTSI clinician.
In our experience, we have learned that by treating the whole family, children get better quicker.
Parental participation is very important.
This form of therapy will help you to:
Learn techniques to help your child when he/she is having trouble
Improve communication between you and your child
Help your child identify feelings and triggers without them acting out
Ease your mind so that you can continue to feel good as a parent
We look forward to working with you and your child. Don’t hesitate to call your CFTSI clinician at
any time if you have questions or concerns.
We are here to help.
Sincerely,
