Dear Future Donor, This letter has been sent in response to your inquiry about Yale’s body donation program for teaching and research. There has always been a critical shortage of bodies and there is no indication that this will change for many years to come. Despite this shortage, there are certain conditions that prohibit us from accepting a body. You will find that a list of criteria can be accessed on this website. We do this because we know that it can be a disappointment to everyone concerned and trust that, if it does happen, the members of the family will understand. Yale Medical School accepts the remains as an unrestricted gift for the purpose of medical education and research. The final disposition of the remains is cremation following the completion of our study. There is no charge for these services and the cremated ashes are buried in Evergreen Cemetery, New Haven, CT. Sincerely yours, William B. Stewart, Ph.D. Section Chief of Anatomy
