Catalogue - Course Description:
This course provides an overview of the software engineering discipline, introducing
the students to the fundamental principles and processes of software engineering.
This course highlights the need for an engineering approach (both personal and
team) to software with understanding of the activities performed at each stage in the
development cycle. In this course, students will perform requirements analysis,
design, implementation and testing. The course presents software development
processes at the various degrees of granularity. Students will become aware of
libraries of standards (IEEE, ACM, SWEBOK, etc.).
Course Goals/Outcomes:
1. Students will be able to explain the notion of engineering approach to software.
2. Students will be able to explain the fundamental principles and methods of
software engineering.
3. Students will be able to interpret case studies of real world software systems.
4. Students will be able to demonstrate PSP (Personal Software Process).
Course Grades:
1) tests : ( 65 – 75 ) %
2) assignments ( individual and team* ) : (25 – 35) %
3) class participation/disruption: affects borderline grades
