Learn Strong – A program to help the school focus on school
 Random Incentive program – a reminder to keep grades up
 Equity – Is it discriminatory?
 Logistics a concern – collecting wrist bands, keeping track
 List of students who have list is very helpful to teachers.
 Motivators – intrinsic and extrinsic
 Support to SIP and site council
 Students say – it motivates kids – get out of lunch early. Nobody wants to spend their lunch time
doing homework. It is getting kids to do their homework.
 Do kids understand the procedures about learn strong? Kids don’t understand how to get and keep
wrist bands – needs more explanation.
 Keep the consistency – gives power to program.
 Add students to Learn Strong initiative – Key communicators in student population and possibly a
newspaper article to communicate with other students. Mark will email Autumn and Jordan about
meeting times when they come up.
Student Site Council Member Check in
Waking up early is hard. I have learned a lot about my school that I didn’t know. By learning this, I can
help make a decision that helps the school. I like knowing what is going on. Glad I am on the Site
Council.
Committee work with students:
Some are more appropriate than others –
Equity appropriate
PLC - ?? Too teacher based for students to participate??
Reading committee:
Staff meeting – Have not heard from teachers about if they are implementing the reading assignment nor
have there been questions.
Reading window opens April 16 for OAKs testing
Packets took the implementation to the next level – easy for teachers to follow through.
April Staff meeting – questionnaire – Ask teachers -have you implemented yet? When will you?
Encourage them to finish up.
Writing committee:
Has not met – Writing month was January
Functioning PLC committee:
Various PLC groups presented Feb. 24, to give updates on where they are and what they have done. We
had two sessions: AM and PM
Everyone that presented said it was hard and time consuming but worth it.
Reminder: Joe Bridgeman can help with Excel or other computer support if you need help.
Need to model what a functional PLC looks like.
Need more accountability for teachers.
1. Each PLC is to turn in a weekly PLC Activity Log to the administrator that supervises their
department.
