Lesson H.1A.3

H.1A.3: Express square roots in equivalent radical from and their decimal approximations when appropriate.

Learning Targets:

 Use order of operations to solve expressions including exponents and square roots.

 Express square roots with decimal approximations.

Warm-up: H.1A.3 Warm up

Teach:

 Review order of operations; include methods of showing work like pizza slice

(pyramid) way and to remember that M and D, A and S are the same step:

7 + 8  3 – 6 P

7 + 24 – 6

 Approximate square root with decimals and between whole numbers.

Active Engagement:

 Student should be taking notes for examples: drawing pictures, pyramid way, family matters, hop scotch.

 Create a problem and it give it to a neighbor to solve

 Word problems

 Calculators make mistakes…not all calculators are created equal

 Find the mistake with problems worked incorrectly

 Fill in the symbol for order of operations problems to make the solutions true.
