Special Instructions
Fieldwork
Please provide a detailed itinerary that shows specific dates and costs of summer travel. Applicants should describe
the necessity of travel and fieldwork and submit work plans. They should itemize living and research expenses with
brief explanations of the methods of calculating costs. (There is no minimal period required for fieldwork, but review
committees in the past have viewed at least a month’s stay as optimal.) In the case of travel awards, grantees must
maintain itemized daily expense reports with original receipts. The Stone Center can provide models and work with
grantees to design acceptable methods of accountability.
Materials
Faculty may apply for support to acquire unique, out of the ordinary research materials essential to the completion of
a project on Latin America (books, maps, software, CD-ROMS, etc.). Where applicants request materials or
outside goods or services, the Center requires itemized estimates and two bids. Please indicate nature of materials
required as part of the grant application.
Assistance
Please provide a work plan and schedule of production together with a statement about the qualifications of the
provider and an explanation of the type and rate of compensation. Particular attention should be given to the
deploying of research assistance. What tasks will they have during what periods? What products are expected?
Please note that faculty members who receive Assistance grants for which they require the service of assistants or
consultants must consult with the Assistant Director of Administration before beginning the approved project.
Applicants to this category must also factor into their proposals any fringe benefits expenses that may apply.
SUBMITTING APPLICATION
The funding application and supporting documentation must be submitted to the Administrative Secretary of the
Stone Center, OR emailed to <scapply@tulane.edu>.
