EMERGENCY DRILLS

 All food and drink items must be consumed in the Nest, or in a classroom with teacher permission
(except water)
 Electronic devices may be used before 9:30 AM and after 4:05 PM
 Follow dress code during all school events
 Keep hands, feet, and objects to self
 Stay within middle school boundaries
 Use appropriate language and a respectful tone of voice
 Bags must be kept in lockers
STEP 2: Teach Expectations for EMERGENCY DRILLS
Being Responsible
 Stand quietly and listen carefully
 Remain in line with your class
Acting Respectfully
 Help others when appropriate
Staying Safe
 Quickly line up
 Listen for directions from adults
 Walk safely and quietly
 Be aware of yourself and your
surroundings
Key Points:
1. Emergency drills occur once per month, except in the event of an actual emergency. Most
drills practice the procedure for a building fire, however, we may have drills for earthquakes,
lockdowns, and blocked exit fire drills.
2. If there is a fire drill during passing, DURING 3RD PERIOD, or in an assembly (or any other
circumstance in which our students are out of class), students go out the nearest door and
find their 1st period teacher.
3. It is crucial that you listen for directions during a drill, as the procedure will be different for
each classroom. Most important is that you remain with your class quietly so that your teacher
can ensure your safety and report that all members of your class are accounted for. Your
teacher will instruct your class about where to stand in a line, on the basketball courts. You do
not need to bring anything with you during a fire drill.
4. Drills are completed when all classes have taken roll and all students are accounted for. You
will hear a bell and/or get a signal from an administrator that it is safe to enter the building.

instructions before the drill about meeting location, where to stand in line, how you will take roll, etc.
Don’t forget to lock the door and take your keys & attendance with you!
