INTRODUCTION
Established during the 1991-92 academic year, the Educational Development Initiative Team (EDIT) is a subcommittee of
the College Senate’s Committee on Professional Development and administers LaGuardia’s Professional Development
Grant Program. Grants awarded by EDIT support LaGuardia faculty and staff in designing and implementing
professional development projects which include (but are not limited to) the following:
1. Professional development activities that supports the College’s Strategic Plan
2. Conference presentations (that require out of town travel)
3. Research (that require out of town travel) to support the production of scholarship to be submitted to
peer-reviewed journals, book publications, and other comparable scholarly publication (based on
field).
* Projects that propose the use of videotaping and editing services must submit a written approval sheet signed by the Director of Media Services along
with this application. Approval sheets can be obtained from Media Services
EDIT does not provide funding for the following:
1. Conference registration (this is usually covered by Academic Affairs), meals, or membership dues
2. The purchase of clothing or equipment, instruction or tutoring, and services available at the college
such as mailing or photocopying
ELIGIBLE & AWARD NOTIFICATION
All members of LaGuardia’s faculty and staff are eligible to submit proposals. This includes part-time members who have
provided at least two years of continuous service (September through June). EDIT award recipients are notified via interoffice mail at the end of the semester in which the application is submitted. The John H. Williams Memorial Edit Grant will
be awarded each cycle (when applicable). Generally EDIT awards up to $500 for domestic travel and up to $1000 for
international travel; however this is dependent on the number of applicants we receive. Awards are for travel from
July 1, 2015 – June 30, 2016. All monies must be disbursed by June 30, 2016.
GENERAL GUIDELINES
1. EDIT applications are available online at http://www.lagcc.cuny.edu/edit/
2. If you are presenting at a conference it is suggested you apply to Academic Affairs FIRST for reimbursement, and
then apply for an EDIT Grant. This should result in recovering most of your expenses. Academic Affairs covers
40% of allowable expenses for conference presentations and/or serving as chair of a panel. Contact Bruce
Hoffacker for more information.
3. All applications must be accompanied by documentation verifying activities. This would include copies of a
acceptance letter to present at a conference or participate in professional development activities, and conference
program (your panel listing). If you travel by plane, train, or bus, retain your ticket or boarding pass for submission
to Academic Affairs and EDIT as proof of travel. Highlight your name and or title of presentation on all
supporting documents.
4. All applications must be accompanied by receipts verifying expenses listed in your budget. Academic Affairs
requires ORIGINAL receipts which should be submitted to your designated department travel liaison. As a result,
submit original receipts to Academic Affairs and provide copies of receipts in your EDIT application. Highlight
expenses on receipts that are included in your budget.
5. EDIT only considers the expenses of the applicant. If you are sharing expenses (hotel room, etc.), or traveling
with others, please adjust your budget accordingly and make specific references to this in the notes section (see
Budget) of the application.
6. If your project involves human subjects, check with IRB to learn if you are required to obtain a statement of
clearance/permission from the IRB, if so this statement should be included in your application. Visit
www.lagcc.cuny.edu/irb for more information.
3
7. Follow the follow guidelines in preparing your EDIT application: use size 10 or 12 font, and do not exceed space
provided in response to any question on the application. Be sure to print out the fillable application form first, then
sign and date documents before submission.
8. Submit 2 copies of your completed EDIT application and supporting documents to Jacqueline Jones’s mailbox in
the English Department (E103) by 12 p.m. on Wednesday, April 6, 2016. We are no longer accepting emailed
applications. We are not responsible for making copies of your application.
*Incomplete applications, including applications missing supporting documents (acceptance letters, hotel and travel receipts, etc) will not be
considered for funding and will be returned to the applicant.
APPLICATION REVIEW PROCESS/EVALUATION CRITERIA
EDIT committee members will review all proposals that are submitted on or before the deadline. Preference will be given
to applicants who have not received funding in the past two years. Committee members will also consider the following
factors:
 Projects that make positive contributions to the College community
 The significance of the project to the applicant’s academic discipline or professional development
 The uniqueness, innovativeness, and potential success of the project
 Population the project will serve
 Other funding sources investigated
 Complete and accurate application with copies of appropriate documentation
