UNIVERSITY OF EXETER
INFRASTRUCTURE DUAL ASSURANCE, 22 OCTOBER 2007
Present: David Allen (Management Lead), Peter Lacey (Lay Lead), Gillian Weale
(Co-ordinator)
DISCUSSED:
 Relationship with Exeter City Council, following the visit of key Councillors
and officers to the campus the previous week, and the University’s response
to the consultation on affordable housing.
 Possibilities for increasing the density of the new student residences planned
for Duryard, although the number of bedspaces had been reduced to 650 by
the ECC planners.
 Planning application for the INTO building – disagreement with the planners
over building materials on the elevations.
AGREED:
 Stuart Franklin to lead on the PR campaign around Exeter’s response to the
affordable housing consultation.
 A PR audit of all planning applications should be undertaken before
submission to ensure appropriate wording and phraseology.
 Exeter would be prepared to compromise and allow the back and side
elevations of the INTO building to be built in brick.
 Following approval of the investment appraisal for the Business School at
Council on 19 October, a Project Management Group chaired by Jeremy
Lindley (with Neil Armstrong leading on content) to be established.
