Campus Environment Management Group
Purpose
To bring together operational activities that affect the performance our campus environments1 and
ensure our natural capital is managed effectively.
Scope
The scope of the group will be Exeter Campuses and will include the following functions





Biodiversity
Car parking
Carbon
Energy management
ISO14001 Environmental Management
System





Sustainable construction & refurbishment
Sustainable travel
Utility procurement
Waste management
Water management
Terms of Reference
The group will:

support the Registrar and the Dual Assurance team in delivering the University’s Sustainability
Strategy, managing environmental risk and improving environmental performance across the
organisation.

develop and deliver the annual action plans covering the areas within scope. Performance
against these plans will be approved and monitored by the Dual Assurance team (as
appropriate).

be responsible for the setting and delivery of quantitative performance targets, as required by
internal and external stakeholders;

develop and deliver relevant policies, strategies and standards to ensure continual
improvement.

ensure the required infrastructure and systems are in place to deliver the policies, strategies
and standards.

review and determine regulations, charging, operational management and enforcement of
relevant activities;

ensure the collation of data and maintenance of records as required by internal and external
stakeholder. This will include Estate Management record, Carbon Trust Standard, etc.

evaluate and review the effectiveness of policies, systems and initiatives;

receive reports regarding expenditure. To include the car parking, sustainable transport and
utilities budgets.

review performance information and prepare annual reports as required.

review formal complaints regarding the campus environments and to decide appropriate course
of action where appropriate;

oversee the ongoing certification / accreditation to relevant standards provides internal and
external assurance. These will include ISO14001, Green Flag, etc.

produce relevant communication plans and monitor their delivery throughout the year.

produce a consultative risk register in partnership with the vision and change agent group, for
approval on a twice yearly basis by Dual Assurance (as appropriate).
Frequency of meetings:
To meet monthly.
Reports to:
Dual Assurance.
All papers and minutes are also circulated to the Vision and Sustainability Change Agent Group.
