Sustainability Vision and Change Catalyst Group
Purpose
To develop the University’s vision for sustainability, act as a link for sustainability research and
education and to actively facilitate action through change agents i.e. focus on empowering both
staff and students. The group will provide the critical link between sustainability research and
operational environmental management.
Scope
The scope of the group will be to:

develop vision for environmental sustainability for approval by the Dual Assurance team;

act as a link for sustainability research and identify mechanisms to apply this to our
operations;

raise awareness within the academic community of sustainability activities and
opportunities on campus;

identify and progress initiatives that empower staff to make change;

proactively identify opportunities to enable students to both shape our vision and also
catalyse change;

Identify opportunities for students to develop skills for sustainability and actively shape our
on campus sustainability endeavours by using our campus as a living laboratory;

evaluate and communicate the success of behaviour change schemes;

identify opportunities to overcome barriers to culture change;

engage in Horizon Scanning to ensure the University is able to respond to future
sustainability challenges / requirements;

develop collaborative relationships with interested parties at a local, regional and national
level, in order to facilitate knowledge exchange.
Exclusions:
The work of the group will exclude University investments, pensions and sources of research
grants. The remit of the group will however include issues relating to our supply chain and ethics.
Outputs:
 The group will produce a work plan for the year (including relevant communication plans,
authority and consultation), identify relevant success factors and contribute to the
consultative risk register.

The group will maintain a log of requests for action and responses.
Frequency of meetings:
To meet three times per year.
Reports to:
Dual Assurance.
All papers and minutes are also circulated to the Campus Environment Management Group.
