During Summer 2013, the Faculty Senate Executive Committee (acting on behalf of the Faculty Senate) approved changes to the structure and mandate for the GEC. Beginning in Fall 2013, review of GE policies, curriculum, and pattern modifications returned to the EPC and GEC will continue to complete the full round of GE Recertification through Fall 2014. All members of GEC will remain as members of GEC until the committee finishes its work in Fall 2014. 2.
On September 4, 2013, the EPC revised its own Standard Operating Procedures to reflect changes in the status of GEC (see above), to provide more guidance to faculty, faculty committees, and Associate Deans in developing curriculum proposals, and to provide for streamlined review of less substantive curriculum changes. 3.
On September 4, 2013, the EPC adopted a policy recommendation to develop the Second Baccalaureate Disqualification Policy. The policy was approved by the Faculty Senate on December 4, 2013. 4.
On September 18, 2013, the EPC formed a GE Workload Subcommittee as requested by the Faculty Senate to look into the future of GE recertification and to look at the EPC’s workload as GE curriculum has returned to the EPC. This subcommittee met and, in Spring 2014 agreed to hold off on reporting until it receives the final report from the GEC in Fall 2014. 5.
On March 12, 2014, the EPC formed a subcommittee to review existing policy on faculty-‐authored materials and to make recommendations on updating the policy. The subcommittee plans to work on the issue over the summer to develop a policy recommendation for the EPC’s consideration in Fall 2014. 6.
On May 7, 2014, the EPC adopted a policy recommendation to revise the undergraduate and graduate syllabi policies in the University Catalog. The new policy would replace the separate undergraduate and graduate policies that are currently in two different places in the Catalog and also update several aspects of the existing policies. The policy was not approved by the Faculty Senate during the academic year and will be submitted to the Faculty Senate during the 2014/2015 academic year.
