Agenda items:

Navidad en el Barrio- needs to sell 15 tickets to holiday dance in November . Proceeds provide
Christmas gifts for our students. Please buy ticket!
Committee Reports:
Safety Committee- Chocler- Problems with dismissal for walkers in Gr. 3-5 continue. Students
disperse quickly. Need more teacher monitors upstairs to watch students as they dismiss and then
report to their assigned duty. This includes monitors that are at bottom of staircases. The following
teachers should begin upstair walker duty effective immediately: Gr.5-Wazcko , Gr. 4 Lozano, Gr. 3
Y.Zaragoza. After students have cleared upstairs area, these teachers should report to their regular
dismissal area for duty.
2
Parent complaints about teachers at car rider duty NOT being attentive during dismissal (socializing,
talking on cell phones, etc.) Teachers in Car rider duty are reminded to spread out, keep students
quiet and be attentive to who is being called.
Headstart- Ms. Williams- Sept. 18 parent meeting about Pedestrian safety, ordered supplies for PK
classrooms like manipulatives, Goal is 79 students and made our goal, elected new officer.
New Family development worker is Lizette Gomez. Pk/Headstart teacher meeting is planned for next
Tuesday with Ms. Galvan to discuss reading and how these teachers can maximize learning for all
students.
School culture- de los Santos- New role of the behavior interventionist was identified (C. Miller) 25
hour/week, will work with students identified as Tier 3 through IAT. She will work with these
students during C.E. on IB projects, teacher should use/exhaust code of conduct prior to students
being identified as Tier 3, similar to RTI process but for behavior, IAT will determine the length of
intervention, second intervention cannot occur prior to 4 weeks. Concern is that some teachers may
not want to release students for that long. However, Ms. Miller is certified and can provide
instructional support. Miller should communicate to CE about who will be out and when. Edith and
Courtney will develop a behavior plan for student when he/returns to class.
Parent Involvement-Espinoza- get more parents involved in school activities. They will coordinate
activities with Ms. Leda Fuentes. Like Muffins with Mom, Donuts with Dad, Tacos with Tia, Every nine
weeks . First event will be week of Oct. 20th.
Bilingual Committee-Galvan-Phase 2 Standard was introduced. Does their ESL plan align to new
standard? Ms. Z. is currently working with Gr. 4, 5. Will begin to add Gr. 3. AR, I Learning, Rosetta
Stone, I Station. Are we overloading our kids and teachers? Use AR and establish an incentive plan
for them. Galvan will work with Ms. Reyes to establish incentive program through the library.
Ms. Z will talk to Leda to look for parent support. K-5 teachers are reminded that that AR should still
be utilized and that students should be tested every nine weeks with STAR test to identify their
reading level. Student AR goals should also be included in “goal setting folders, classroom motivation
display.”
Wellness Committee-Tello- My Favorite Holiday Recipe essay contest for Gr. 4 is starting next week
Oct. 4-Oct. 30. Winner is invited to Blue Plate Luncheon, overall winner gets to be chef of the day at
the Houstonian Restaurant. Healy/ Tello Want Wellness wagon item suggestions. Accepting ideas
about student/parent projects, suggestions about what we want from Recipe For Success. Ie. Parent
cooking. Tello told Mr. Espinoza that they could coordinate their committee goals.
PYP Committee-Moore- Continue to include more activities with other content like reading and math.
Gr. 2, K are doing this already so Moore will meet with upper grades to see how they can add more
activities. All grades should be ending their end of IB planner projects in October. Post on
walls/tables. Our new SSO has IB background and wants to offer support with IB work.
Art per HB5 is required so tile project is underway. Tile may include IB attitude or reflect work from IB
planner. Tile project should be completed in the classroom and will be installed in the outdoor
shaded area in the Spark Park.
Buley recommends staggering this project over the year.
