User Instructions
The DVD-ROM version of the Springer Handbook of Automation contains a PDF version of the book. The Adobe
Reader tools allow the user to read, search, navigate, zoom etc. through the book. An especially useful tool is the
full text search which allows users to search throughout the entire book. The Adobe Reader offers comprehensive
online help for working with the tools.
To enable all the features of this PDF files we recommed the use of Adobe Reader 8 with search function.
The following features of the document are available for navigation:
• The bookmarks provide access to all parts of the book. You can directly choose chapters, sections etc.
• Cross-references to sections, figures, tables, literature and equations are link-enabled and are shown in blue
in the text.
• The text passages can be accessed directly from the subject index by clicking on the respective page number.
• The Tables of Contents and the List of Tables are fully linked to the chapters and sections.
• Abbreviations in the text are linked to the List of Abbreviations.
• By clicking on a reference number in the “References” at the end of each chapter you will be led to the place
were it is cited from the text. If it is cited several times a selection box with the corresponding pages will
open.
