HISD Athletics Philosophy

Athletic programming in the Houston Independent School District is an integral component to the total educational structure. Athletics offers positive and meaningful experiences that assist in enhancing the growth and development of young men and women in an environment where life responses are taught. Our primary goal is to create a teaching lab wherein student athletes flourish and commit to cooperative goals, learn perseverance, learn to accept winning and losing graciously, sacrifice for others and cooperatively pursue victory.

Our desire for student-athletes, through their participation, will ultimately have fun and build life-long relationships. Their active participation will grant them the ability to release stress in a healthy manner and instill fitness for life as a core value. The ultimate product of this investment will be a healthy adult who positively contribute to their communities.

Soccer Policies

1.

As a student -athlete your primary responsibility is to maintain a solid academic record as a student. If you need help in a class it is your responsibility to go see your teacher for tutorials before school/during lunch! If you need to miss practice because of classes you must sign the attendance sheet in Coach Linderman’s room before lunch. a.

According to U.I.L. rules, athletes must pass (70% or better) all of their classes in order to be eligible for participation in soccer. b.

Ineligible players are not allowed to travel with the team or participate in games, but must still attend practice!

2.

DO NOT MISS PRACTICE!

Practice prepares us for games. If we don’t practice we will not be prepared. Any absence from practice, regardless of the reason must be noted on the attendance sheet in Coach Linderman’s room before lunch. Missing practice will result in the following consequences: a.

Missing the practice the day before a game: You will not play in the game the next day. Period. b.

Any unexcused absence: You will not play the next game. c.

Two or more absences in a one-week period (excused or otherwise): You will not play the next game. d.

You are still required to attend the game with any above consequence!

3.

PRACTICE IS MANDATORY FOR EVERY PLAYER! If you are injured you still must attend practice to either do light rehab or observe. If you are sick and/or not it school, you need to e-mail (blinderm@houstonisd.org) or text

(8602874285) Coach Linderman before lunch (noon) to let him know.

4.

If you have 7 th

period athletics you are to report to Coach Baker’s classroom for that period and work on schoolwork. If you participate in another varsity sport that has a 7 th period athletics I would highly encourage you to not participate in that sport during that time. You will still be held responsible for a full practice after school, where performance determines game playing time.

5.

Each team is responsible for setting up and taking down equipment from the field each practice/game. No player will be dismissed from practice until all equipment is returned to its proper location. Equipment for each practice/game include: a.

Bag of 10 soccer balls, half the pennies, set of cones b.

Water jug from training room c.

Goals d.

Corner flags (if used) e.

Hurdles, speed ladder, tires, etc. (if used)

6.

You are expected to show good sportsmanship at all times, including practices, games, and team functions. Fighting or general bad sportsmanship (ex. yellow card for language/arguing) during a game will result in a one-game suspension.

7.

Act appropriately! You represent RHS, the soccer program, your teammates, and the coaches. Be respectful to RHS teachers and staff, your teammates, opposing players, refs, and trainers.

8.

Be supportive! Make constructive comments to each other or don’t make any comment.

9.

BE HONEST!

If something happens like you get in trouble in school, are failing a class, miss school for whatever reason, or will be absent from practice, be upfront and tell Coach Linderman. If I find out about an issue like the examples above from somebody other than you, you will be disciplined more severely than the consequences outlined on the previous page.

Game Day Policies

1.

You must attend all classes on any game day before departing school. This includes half of a class period. If you are absent from school (as determined by 2 nd period attendance) you will not travel with the team. I will check attendance with the office before getting onto the bus!

2.

For district games you are required to wear a shirt and tie or your Reagan Soccer hoodie to school. If worn, the tie must be visible! Tie/Hoodie decision is up to the captains/coach of each team. If you do not have a Reagan Soccer hoodie you are to wear a shirt and tie!

3.

When you are dismissed from class, gather the necessary equipment and report directly to the locker room. We will board the bus within 20 minutes after you are dismissed from class. If you are late, you will not start! If you miss the bus, you will not play!

4.

Everyone will ride the bus to and from games. The only way you will be allowed to leave with your parents is to have an alternate travel form printed and signed by the appropriate people. This is for extenuating circumstances! You are expected to ride to and from the game on the bus.

You need to give the note to your coach before you leave school. NO EXCEPTIONS!!

a.

Pre-game and post-game meetings will be held on the bus, and require that you be in attendance. b.

Players are responsible for loading/unloading the bus. If the bus is left dirty there will be fitness as a consequence at the next practice.

5.

You will warm up in your uniform, not a T-shirt. Do not take your uniform off until you are clear of the field (outside the stadium or on the bus at away games).

This includes before, during, or after the game. This is not team where everyone takes their shirt off at the end of the game.

6.

Once warm-up has begun you are to be concentrating on the game, not who is or is not in the stands. You can talk to your friends and family after the game.

7.

When you are not in the game, remain on the bench. You must have all equipment on, as well as a pennie of any color. The pennie helps the officials see who is on, and not on, the field. Do not get up to yell at the referee or anybody not associated with the team (people in the stands).

8.

One person on the bench, which may be a manager, will be designated as the stat keeper. That person’s primary responsibility is to maintain the stat sheet and as a result must pay close attention to what happens in the game.

9.

ACT APPROPRIATELY!!

Remember you not only represent yourself at games but you represent your coaches, school, and community.

Daily Healthy Habits

1.

Get sufficient rest each night. This means 8 hours of sleep.

2.

Maintain good hygiene habits: Shower after practice. Wear clean practice clothes.

3.

Eat breakfast and lunch. DO NOT EAT greasy/fatty/oily foods. Eat carbs for long-lasting energy. Eat protein for muscle growth and recovery.

4.

DRINK PLENTY OF FLUIDS. Carry a water-bottle with you at school!
