CECIL CO. 2014 COOPERATOR OF THE YEAR!
The Cecil Soil Conservation District is honoring Edgar “Duty” Hevelow as their 2014 Cooperator of the Year. Duty Hevelow, a retired
grain farmer from Warwick, Maryland, has farmed in Cecil County since the 1950s. He served on the District Board of Supervisors for 41
years where he shared his love for agriculture while promoting conservation education. He participated with field demonstrations, pilot programs and even starred in a short educational video about proper soil management. Duty installed the first water and sediment control basin
WASCOB on the Eastern shore as he was a conservation pioneer. He has utilized various best management practices including grassed waterways, cover crops, and grade stabilization structures. Duty was instrumental to bring extensive community drainage improvements for the
public as he promoted the installation of drainage ditches throughout Cecil County. His dedication to the Cecil Soil Conservation District
