Week of November 9 - 13 Daily Five The High Frequency Word Evaluation will be completed this week. This is an HISD promotion standard. The students will be given three attempts throughout the year to pass the assessments. Our focus this week will be on Author’s Purpose. The students will be able to tell why the author wrote the book. It could be to persuade the reader, for leaning information or entertainment. Phonics The students will practice reading words with the ch, ph and wh digraphs. Examples: who, chip, hatch. Digraphs-ch, ph and wh 1. whale 2. white 3. what 4. when 5. why 6. chin 7. much 8. rich 9. chest 10. photo High Frequency Words 11. here 12. for Bonus Word: elephant Language Arts The students will continue to work on adjectives and using them to describe themselves. Math Unit 2 Module 6 – Addition Strategies 6.5 Practice the Strategies 6.6 Make a 10 to Add 6.7 Use Make a 10 to Add Module 6 Assessment Please read over the day’s lesson and choose one or two problems to discuss with your child. If she or he can teach the concept to you, then you know mastery occurred. Math homework goes home every day, but Friday, in the red folder. It is to be returned the next day. Homework is not graded, but checked, and teachers keep track of whether the homework is done or not as a report card requirement. Timed math fact test goal sheets are to be kept in the back pocket of your child’s red folder in order for you to know what facts to study each week. Social Studies Students will identify these historical figures who have exhibited individualism and inventiveness: Alexander Graham Bell Thomas Edison Garrett Morgan Richard Allen Students will identify these historical figures who have influenced our community, state, and union: George Washington Abraham Lincoln Martin Luther King, Jr. We will also discuss Veterans’ Day and the important contributions men and women have made serving in the Armed Forces. Thank you for your service, Veterans! IMPORTANT INFORMATION All students MUST walk/run track every day as part of the state of Texas requirements for physical fitness. Please wear appropriate shoes for track, recess, and P.E. Please continue sending signed notes within 3 days of your child’s absence from school. Students must be fever free without fever reducing medication for 24 hours before returning to school! Marcos will record teacher name in their system when pizza orders are placed from home, and the class with maximum pizza orders will earn a free pizza party.
