Guidelines on Establishment of Prerequisite Courses of College of Tourism & Hospitality at I-Shou University Approved on September 27, 2011 at the first meeting of the College Affairs Council at the first semester of the academic year 2011 Ratified and promulgated by the President on October 24, 2011 I. To establish the solid foundation of basic and professional knowledge for students and improve the quality of teaching, the Guidelines on Establishment of Prerequisite Courses of College of Tourism & Hospitality at I-Shou University (hereinafter referred to as the “Guidelines”) are hereby established. II. The prerequisite courses for undergraduate programs set up by the College include: Introduction to Tourism, Introduction to Recreation and Leisure, Introduction to Hospitality Industry, Introduction to Culinary Arts, Introduction to Computer and Information System, Management, Accounting and Statistics. III. One convener is appointed for each college prerequisite course. The convener is responsible for overall planning of instructors, teaching materials, course schedule, the evaluation of students’ learning outcomes and other relevant affairs. The conveners of the courses are elected at the Executive Board Meeting of the College. The elected conveners shall serve a one-year term and may be re-elected. The conveners may cooperate with the College of Management to carry out the overall planning of the courses when necessary. IV. The college prerequisite courses are established by the College, and the College shall assign competent instructors for the courses. The requirements for the instructors are as follows: 1. Teachers with relevant education background, experiences and expertise for the courses to be offered. 2. Teachers who have taught same courses at any of the undergraduate programs within the most recent three years, and students who took such courses were satisfied. V. The credits of college prerequisite courses taught by each teacher at each semester shall not exceed 6 credits. Teachers shall file the application of increasing the course credits to the Executive Board Meeting of the College for discussion, and the maximum number of credits shall not exceed 9. 1 VI. The conveners of college prerequisite courses shall submit the form of teacher qualification verification for the courses offered at the following semester within two weeks of the mid-term exam. The list of instructors shall be submitted to the departments for class arrangements or other relevant affairs after approved by the Executive Board Meeting of the College. VII. The conveners shall convene a group meeting before the end of the current semester upon the approval of teacher qualification to discuss the teaching and students’ learning outcomes of the current semester. Affairs relevant to the course content and course schedule at the following semester shall be included as well. The conveners may convene extraordinary group meeting during the semester when necessary. VIII. The conveners of college prerequisite courses shall submit the meeting minutes to the College for future reference after each group meeting. Affairs relevant to the courses may be discussed at the Executive Board Meeting of the College. IX. The Guidelines become effective on the third day of promulgation upon the adoption by the College Affairs Council and ratified by the President. Note: In the event of any disputes or misunderstanding as to the interpretation of the language or terms of these Guidelines, the Chinese language version shall prevail. 2
