Mrs. Slaters’ Friday Note!
_
Dear Parents,
Please look over the papers your child has been bringing home throughout the week.
Through open communication, we can work together to ensure a successful school year for all!
This Week’s Highlights
Reading – In honor of St. Patrick’s Day, we read
several Irish folktales including Jamie O’Rourke
and the Big Potato, Clever Tom and the
Leprechaun, and That’s What Leprechauns Do!
We also read some nonfiction texts about Irish
castles and women in history while determining
the main idea of these texts and the author’s
purpose for writing his/her texts.
Writing– After crafting leprechaun traps,
students were inspired to write what a how to
catch a leprechaun paper using temporal words.
Students continued to research and collect
information about their selected topic to prepare
to write their own nonfiction piece!
Math – Students are using the number line to
identify the position of two- and three-digit
numbers and rounding numbers (estimate) to the
nearest ten or hundred. Once we’ve rounded to
the nearest ten, students are using these
rounded numbers to estimate the sum or
difference of two two-digit numbers.
Social Studies – We are comparing/contrasting
the U.S. government with our state and local
government & learning about state symbols.
