The Board of Trustees of the Houston Community College System held a Special
Meeting on Thursday, January 26, 2006, at the Houston Community College System
Administration Building, Second Floor Auditorium, 3100 Main, Houston, Texas.

CALL TO ORDER
Dr. Williams, Chairman, called the meeting to order at 2:46 p.m. and declared the Board
convened to consider matters pertaining to the Houston Community College System as
listed in the duly posted meeting notice.
INVOCATION
Reverend Harvey Clemons, Pastor of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church gave the invocation.
RECOGNITION OF SPECIAL GUESTS
Dr. Williams recognized public officials and other special guests including The
Honorable Sylvester Turner (State Representative, District 139), Arturo Michel (City of
Houston), Mrs. Valerie Oliver, wife of Trustee Christopher Oliver, Guests of Dr. Williams
including his wife, Mrs. Donna Williams, and son, Michael P. Williams, II.
GREETINGS FROM DR. LESLIE
Dr. Leslie extended greetings to visitors and guests in the audience. He recognized
HCC’s Vice-Chancellors: Dr. Charles Cook, Irene Porcarello, Jose Villarreal, and Gloria
Walker and HCC’s College Presidents: Dr. Sue Cox, Dr. Margaret Ford, Dr. Fena
Garza, Dr. William Harmon, Dr. Zachary Hodges, and Dr. Marsal Stoll. Dr. Leslie
welcomed newly elected Trustee Richard Schechter and re-elected Trustees
Christopher Oliver and Dr. Michael P. Williams and acknowledged Trustees Jay Aiyer,
Bruce Austin, Abel Davila, Yolanda Navarro Flores, Diane Olmos Guzman, and James
Murphy.
SWEARING-IN CEREMONY FOR DISTRICTS IV and IX
Swearing-in of Trustees Dr. Michael P. Williams for District IV and Christopher Oliver for
District IX was announced. Dr, Leslie announced that Trustee Richard Schechter was
sworn in on Sunday, January 8, 2006 at the HCC West Loop Campus by The
Honorable Judge Vanessa Gilmore. The ceremonial Oath of Office for Dr. Williams was
administered by The Honorable Sylvester Turner and Mr. Oliver by Attorney Arturo
Michel.
COMMENTS BY TRUSTEES
Dr. Williams and Trustee Oliver expressed appreciation to their family, supporters and
friends.

PRESENTATION OF CERTIFICATES OF ELECTION
Dr. Leslie presented certificates of Election for Dr. Williams and Trustee Oliver.
ADJOURNMENT
With no further business to come before the Board, Chairman Williams adjourned the
meeting at 3:02 p.m.
