Winter Farmers Markets
Yup, it's officially winter, but that doesn't mean you can't get local products.
Here's a few places providing fruits, vegetables, meats and more!
Miller Farms Farm Market: Open daily. Check their website for hours, farm
history, and what's available.
P.A. Bowen Farmstead Market: Thursdays-Saturdays, or by appointment. Farm
tours also available. Details here.
Riverdale Park Winter Market: Thursdays, 3:00pm-7:00pm. Dates, location
(new location this year!) and more information at their website.

Bladensburg Apartment Complex May Grow a Farm
If Bladensburg resident David Battle, 39, wants fresh produce, he said he usually
walks a shopping cart to a grocery store a little over a mile away. Battle, a tenant
at Autumn Woods Apartments, may not have as long a walk soon if plans to
create a farm on a vacant three-acre spot at the complex are approved. Read more

On Your Plate in 2013: Expect Kimchi and Good-For-You Greens
Asian flavors, nose-to-tail cooking and all kinds of varieties of greens predicted
for kitchens this year by Bonny Wolf of American Food Roots. Read and listen

Annie's Project: Farm
Management Classes for
Women
January 23rd-March 20th, 2013

The University of Maryland
Extension will again conduct Annie's
Project, which focuses on the many
aspects of farm management and is
designed to empower women in
overall farm decision making and to
build local networks throughout the
state. The target audience is women in
agriculture with a passion for
business, agriculture and involvement
in the farm operation.

LOOOVE Maryland Wine?
Winter Wine at Evergreen Museum & Library is the place for wine lovers to
experience the best that Maryland has to offer in a small, exclusive and beautiful
setting. Wines will be organized by variety, and poured by winery staff (many
winemakers will be in attendance), to provide details about particular varietals,
blends and vintages.
Attendees will enjoy stationary and butler-passed delicious, unique, locally-sourced
hors d'oeuvres throughout the evening, provided by Chef's Expressions. Prices and
ticket purchase can be found here.
Topics for the sessions cover the five
areas of Risk Management Production, Marketing, Financial,
Legal Risk, Human Resources. This
course is open to anyone interested in
farm management practices.
The course will be 8 sessions held at
the Prince Georges County Extension
Office, Clinton, MD. The cost of the
course including meals and materials
is $75. Please register by January
15th, space is limited.

interested gardeners can fill them out
and pay for their plots while enjoying
