Happy Friday! Here is an update of what is happening in our room as we head into one last busy
(and surprisingly warm!) week before winter break!
Just a reminder that if your child will be absent any day next week or the week we return from break, please let me know as soon as possible so that I may plan accordingly!
We will not have any homework or Words Their Way next week. Please check at home to be sure their Words Their Way container is returned to school. You can continue to read with your child and play and math games from their math folder, Go Fish Ten and Zap! seem to be the favorites in our room right now! We will return to our usual homework and Words Their Way schedule the week we return from break. Thank you for your continued support at home!
Our class completed the Hour of Code this week! The Hour of Code is a movement to encourage students to explore computer programming. We completed a Minecraft Tutorial from the Hour of Code website in which we had to move our character through obstacles by writing computer code. We also used an app called
(it’s free in the app store!) to write computer code that will allow a robot to move through mazes and light up different squares.
The kids absolutely loved these activities and I was impressed with how quickly they grasped the concepts, feel free to check them out at home!

Explore this website for many different tutorials similar to the Minecraft one we completed and other apps that practice computer programming. Happy Coding!
The Labels for Education (or Box Tops Collection) program occasionally offers a Bonus Point sheet that allows us to earn even more points from our collected Labels. This month there is a
Holiday Crossword page to be filled out and completed. Each completed sheet will earn a bonus of
50 points! Each of these bonus sheets requires the crossword to be completed, and 5 Labels to be attached. * Please note: There MUST be a combination of 3 Campbell’s product labels, and 2
Pepperidge Farm product labels per sheet. * You may glue or scotch tape the Labels to the sheet. Please do NOT use staples. There is a website link on the crossword page that you can reference for a complete list of qualifying labels and products. I have attached the Bonus Sheet if you would like to complete it and attach the appropriate labels, it is completely optional. If you are interested, please return these Bonus Sheets by next Friday.
This Sunday is Movie Day at the high school! The movie Elf will be shown at 2:00. The cost is $5 a person or $10 a family. The money goes to the Alexander Leigh Center for Autism which is this year’s Charity Bash recipient. Bring your blankets and pillows to watch a fun movie! See attachment for more details.
If you are interested in donating items to the Seth Paine food drive, please bring them by
Tuesday Dec. 15 th . Before we bring the food to the collection boxes, we are going to create a graph to compare how many of each item was collected. For our graph, please choose one or more items from our list below. You are welcome to donate any additional food items of your choice. (Non-perishable items, please)
*soup
*oatmeal, pancake mix, or warm cereal mixes
*granola bar/breakfast bar
Just a reminder, if you are interested in sharing one of your traditions with the children, please send me an email. I will contact you to arrange a day and time to come to the classroom. If this is too busy of a time for you, I am happy to schedule later in the school year. The children love guest presenters and have truly enjoyed the experiences thus far!
