For more information on how to start or get involved with a group, email Commuter Services at Commuter@liberty.edu. • Commuter Communities are committed to growing God’s kingdom through person-to-person interaction. Leaders train others to be sowers of spiritual seeds: presenting the Gospel, praying for spiritual increase, and being committed to cultivating new laborers. • Leaders set goals for growth, encouraging members to actively reach out to the community rather than relying on the leader for the group’s expansion. • Once groups reach seven or eight members, Commuter Communities leaders begin mentoring members who are ready to become leaders of their own groups. Mentorship emphasizes prayer, Bible study, and involvement in the local church. • Finally, group leaders choose two members from their group to help launch additional Commuter Communities. METHODS: COMMUNITY, MISSION, AND OBEDIENCE COMMUNITY IN SERVANT LEADERSHIP: Commuter Communities leaders are taught to lead by becoming servants. They are given opportunities to both serve and train others to serve, which creates increased group participation and chances for conversations about the Gospel. MISSIONAL LIVING THROUGH LUKE 10 JOURNEYS: In Luke 10, Jesus sent out His disciples in teams of two to spread the Gospel. Commuter Communities pray to meet people, and then go out to the community to witness to those whose hearts have been prepared to respond to the Gospel. Often, these people will be invited back to Commuter Communities meetings. MENTORSHIP IN OBEDIENCE FROM GLOBAL CHURCH PLANTING MOVEMENTS: Our Commuter Communities mentorship theory is influenced by the work of missionaries Ying Kai, Steve Smith, and Bruce Bennett. These men started church planting movements in Southeast Asia and Africa by focusing on organic growth models, which emphasize obedience to Jesus Christ, advancement of the Gospel, and discipleship of believers to become trainers of new converts. These methods have resulted in over 4,000 new believers a day in Africa, and over 150,000 new church plants in Southeast Asia since 2001!
