Position: 0649+4104
Type: Oc
Dimensions: 14'
Class: I 3m
Cluster population: 30
Magnitude: 5.4
Notes:
It is 300 million years old. The earliest spectral types are A0, and 119 stars have been
counted as part of this group. The brightest star is 7.3m (250 times brighter than the
Sun).
It lies 29,000 light years from the galactic center and 440 light years above the
galactic plane.
Observations:
C8 at 65x. Sparse, with a kite shape. There are two nice doublets at the center.
Instead of a kite, Dean Williams sees a hammer and sickle pattern.
C11 at 115x. It is bracketed N and S by 8m W stars. Somewhat oval shaped; two
nice pairs (one of which is A 2359) dominate the center.
Model (where the Sun is a baseball):
Its diameter would be 2,100 miles with its stars 340 miles apart
