Mechain first found it on August 27, 1780, and Messier added it to his list on October
18. He noted that it appeared to be "composed only of very small stars containing some
nebulosity."
It is 125 light years in diameter. The brightest stars are 14.6m and the horizontal
branch is 17.5m.
Observations:
C8 at 83x. Unresolved, but bright, especially at the center. Medium powers work
very well.

SW side. Very bright core, with rapid
brightening to the middle. (Okie-Tex Star

14 x 70 Binos. Very small and
