Wolf-Rayet star with a large shell (what has been taken as the planetary nebula).
Observations:

coax it out of so rich a field.

1832: 34.3 @ 56.
The A star is a spectroscopic binary and an infra-red source.
The A-B orbit takes about 7,270 years. The stars are at least 3,000 AU apart.
The Sun's motion through the Galaxy is taking us in the general direction of Beta and
in about 4.6 million years, it will be the brightest star in our sky, where it will be visible
as a 0m gold star and a 2m blue star very close to it (and posing as a naked eye binary!).
The stars share common proper motion.
From James Kaler's Star Notes:
Somewhere around half, or even more, of the local stars are actually members of
some kind of double or multiple system, the stars in orbit about each other. The stars that
make Albireo, about 380 light years away, are quite far apart however, and if actually
attached graviationally have an extremely long orbit with a period estimated to be about
7,300 years. The brighter yellow-colored member of Albireo is a much closer double, the
two stars not separable in the telescope. It consists of a bright, but cool, evolving giant
coupled with a dimmer but hotter "dwarf," a star that, like the Sun, fuses hydrogen into
helium in its core. The dimmer fifth magnitude blue component of Albiero is, so far as
we know, single, and is a blue dwarf just a bit cooler than the companion to the yellow
star. It is a very interesting star in its own right, as it is a rapid rotator that is losing matter
and is surrounded by a disk of gas of its own making.
Observations:
C8 at 83x. Superb! Smyth called them "topaz yellow and sapphire blue." Webb
wrote, "one of the finest double stars in the heavens." I agree!

Other Names: Melotte 225; Collinder 407; Raab 142; H VIII 16
Astronomical League Program: Herschel 400 Club
Position: 1952+2925
Type : Oc
Dimensions: 5'
Class: II 2m
Cluster population: 50
Magnitude : 9.7
Notes:
It is 79 million years old. The earliest stars are B2 types, and there are 128 known
members. The brightest star is a 9.7m red one.
It lies 25,600 light years from the galactic center and 150 light years above the
galactic plane.
Observations:
C8 at 65x. Use high powers and note the four stars across the center. It is rich and
dense. A tight knot to one end of the line of four makes it look like a stick pin (Barabara
Wilson's neat description).
Model (where the Sun is a baseball):
Its diameter would be 3,510 miles and its stars 480 miles apart.
Distance (LY): 6,740
Luminosity (suns): 470
