5/5/2016 __________________ Room 103 May Whitney Elementary School This Week During Class... Language Arts: In reading, we continued to learn about poems. We talked about how poets use similar techniques on all the poems they write. We also discussed how it is important to make meaning of each piece of a poem to understand the entire thing. Upcoming Events Early Release Friday, May 20 Friday, May 27 We finished revising . The students worked on picking more specific verbs and adding details to their nous (word choice). They also decided how to give readers information about content specific words that they used. We ended the week editing our pieces. Math: We started Module 11 by looking at fractions. We worked on equivalent fractions and compared fractions with common and uncommon denominators. We used manipulatives to help us compare fractions with unlike denominators, but learned a few tricks, to use when comparing fractions. Social Studies: This week we finished our presentations on our people of Illinois. We, also, finished our ABC books on Illinois. They should have come home with your child today. Be sure and check them out! Other News: If your child participated in the Six Flags Read to Succeed program the tickets are in your child’s folder.
