Andy Howard:
In the summer of 2013, I was part of a team that was awarded a research fellowship from the
Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The project was to design, implement, and test online courses
using adaptive learning technology, which uses algorithms to create personalized learning paths
based on student learning outcomes. The team included three instructional designers and four
instructors; courses are being designed in the fall and a pilot program will be run in the spring of
2014.
It is really an interesting project; I hope to do a FLEX presentation in the spring or fall of next
year to share my experiences with Rio.
