TRIBUNE
Attention: Swine Exhibitors
If you are planning to show swine this year, be aware
that Maryland 4-H WILL NOT be using the RFID
Tags this year, which contained a premise ID
number. If you are breeding your own pigs, contact the
Maryland Department of Agriculture (410-841-5810) to
obtain your premise ID, if you have not already done so.
If you plan on purchasing your pig, talk with your
breeders and make them aware of this new rule. You
MUST have a premise ID tag in your pig’s ear in order to
receive health papers. To learn more about the new
1
tagging guidelines visit:
http://mda.maryland.gov/AnimalHealth/Pages/disease
-traceability.aspx
Maryland Health Paper Guidelines
If you will be showing any animal that requires a Maryland Certificate of Veterinary Inspection
(Health Papers) please note: Effective for 2016 Maryland CVI’s will be valid for 90 days for
fairs and shows. No changes were made to Interstate CVI’s and they are still valid for 30 days.
Oh Look… It’s Bad Weather!
If it’s bad weather that means things at the Extension Office may be closing! If there is no
school or there is early dismissal in Carroll County due to inclement weather, all 4-H events
are to be cancelled. In addition, if the snow emergency plan is in effect by 6:00 pm, all 4-H
events are to be cancelled for that evening. If you have any questions, call the Extension
Office at 410-386-2760.

Indoor Department Update
This month I begin my series of articles about class changes or rule changes to the Indoor
Department of the County fair.
To encourage food exhibits, premiums were increased. Participants who have at least one item
in the Cake Auction will receive a $20 participation fee. Each seller will only receive one premium,
regardless of the number of items sold in the auction. Participants in the Indoor Bake Sale will
receive a $5 participation premium. Each seller will receive only one premium regardless of the
number of items sold at the Indoor Bake Sale.
If you entered Plants and Flowers, Photography or Garden Products Departments at the 2015
County Fair and plan to enter any of these departments at the 2016 County Fair you must have
submitted a successful unit completion by Dec. 1, 2015.
This month I will concentrate on the class changes in the Crafts Department. There are no new
classes for the 2016 Fair. There are several clarifications.
-Due to a low number of exhibits the basketry class has been eliminated. A basket can be entered in
the weaving class.
-Ceramics are items that have been cleaned, fired and then baked. Purchased bisques are just painted
and sprayed.
-The duct tape class description is very broad. Any item constructed from duct tape, no duct tape
pictures.
Any questions can be directed to Miss Sandy at 410 857-0416, Indoor Department
Superintendent
FAIR PHOTO orders from the 2015 Carroll County 4-H/FFA Fair are available in the Extension Office.
