Use of Results
In the boxes below, summarize the outcomes
assessed in your program or discipline during
the last year.
In the boxes below, summarize
the methods used to assess
program, discipline, or course
outcomes during the last year.
In the boxes below,
summarize the results of your
assessment activities during
the last year.
In the boxes below,
summarize how you are
or how you plan to use
the results to improve
student learning.
I.
Outcome #1: Skills – The student will
be able to:
a. Identify the bones of the skull
with emphasis on the maxilla and
mandible.
b. Apply the correct anatomical
nomenclature during the study of
head and neck anatomy
Students are evaluated through
quizzes and exams consisting of
lecture and reading material.
Lab exercises consist of
identification of structures using
skulls and diagrams. A 75% or
better is required to pass the
course.
Results:
Grades were satisfactory with
all students above 80%,
therefore 5% above minimal
skill level. All students passed
National Boards.
II.
Outcome #2: Knowledge – The
student will be able to discuss, define,
identify and/or explain the following:
a. The muscles, bones, nerves,
lymphatic drainage, and blood
supply of the head and neck.
b. Normal variation and how it
applies to different structures of
the head and neck
c. The key words and anatomical
terms relevant to oral inspection
The instructor evaluates student
comprehension through quizzes,
examinations, lab exercises, and
student participation.
Student evaluations indicated
a desire for increased time
devoted to interactive learning
activities in class.
My current strategy is to
use “online assistance”
in the form of Angel to
free up class time by
presenting material prior
to classes where
possible. An increase in
questioning will evaluate
their preparation.
I am planning to increase
the time devoted to
student participation
activities with the Angel
pre-preparation of the
students online.
Effect on Program,
Discipline or Course
Based on the results of this
assessment, will you revise
your outcomes? If so, please
summarize how and why in
the boxes below.
This outcome is the basic
course material the students
need to pass the National
board anatomy section.
Evaluating the switch to Angel
pre-preparation online needs
careful monitoring.
The level of participation and
quality of student interaction
may affect the implementation
of these outcomes, but the
outcomes seem appropriate for
clinical applications pending
further evaluation.
III.
Outcome #3 Application – The
student will:
a. Verbalize anatomical structures
during a thorough dental
examination and description
through application in the clinical
experience.
b. Explain how the overall oral
health and development of an
individual affects their general
health.
The instructor evaluates student
comprehension through quizzes,
examinations, lab exercises, and
student presentations when
applicable
Student presentations have
been taking place in other
classes which other instructors
indicate is an effective
participation tool in faculty
meetings.
I am planning to have
the students learn by
presenting modules of
information to the class.
This should be more
stimulating for
generating increased
student interest in the
material which can be
“boring”.
This outcome could be
emphasized by increasing the
class time spent on Clinical
applications.
