summarize how and why in the
boxes below:
Outcome#l
Skills :
Students become familiar with
manipulation of dental materials
and identify the condition of
these materials intra-orally.
Students are taught proper
manipulation and rationale
during laboratory and didactic
phases of instruction, with
additional clinical evaluations.
Comprehension is evaluated by
successful completion of
laboratory tasks, quizzes, and
clinical Skills Checks and
Performance Evaluations
By supervising and evaluating
students "each step of the way"
we are able to identify problems
sooner and provide corrective
actions/support for a positive
outcome
Student learning and
comprehension can be kept at a
higher, more consistent level. If
this is not demonstrated then
teaching formats can be altered
to better suit their learning
lnstructor(s) evaluate
knowledge using 12 quizzes, o ne
midterm, one final, one writing
assignment and satisfactory
performance of laboratory
exercises and competencies.
Grading is performed using a
pre-determined rubric and a
final score of 75% or better is
req uired to pass the course.
Students exhibited standard
"bell-shaped curve" results on
written tests. Oral responses
were also within a "normal"
range of accuracy and often
allowed better understanding of
a concept by some students.
Tests and rubric graded papers
always give a general indication
of what students "picked-up"
and what concepts were not well
graspeq. This allows me to
reinforG.e those areas not
adequately comprehended.
Areas of diminished
comprehension are identified so
that alternative methods can be
substituted, thereby giving
students a better opportunity for
success
Outcome # 2
Knowledge:
Students learn indications,
contraindications, advantages,
and disadvantages for commonly
used Dental materials

Effect on Course
In both laboratory and clinical
settings students must
demonstrate the ability to work
with and around dental mat erials,
as well as recognize any possible
chemical interactions within the
oral cavity A field trip to a working
dental lab is required with a report
on observations of real life
applications
Some of these evaluations are done
via the quizzes and tests, others are
accomplished during clinical
evaluations on patients (one on
one).
Lab assessments occur via
practical exercises. Competency
evaluations are utilized for
laboratory exercises
As above, when each step is
monitored a quicker response to
Inadequate performance can be
enacted for better overall student
outcome. This may involve one on
one or small group extra attention.
We have developed additional
teaching media which are
enhancing student
comprehension. These can be
readily enacted by anyone w ho is
concerned with student
performance, There is a plan being
i mplemented t o use interactive
clinical demonst ration w ith
intraoral video when the system is
completely installed.
Outcome#J
Application:
Students apply the above gained
knowledge in laborat ory and
clinical situations.
