In fall 2010, we decided to assess the following core indicators: present tense, direct object pronouns, ser/estar, reflexive verbs, and noun/adjective agreement. The assessment indicated that only question #5: reflexive verbs (63% accuracy) fell below a 70% accuracy level. The rest of the indicators showed accuracy between 73.68% and 94.74%. These are the core indicators numbers one through ten targeted: 1. ser/estar, 2. present tense: subject/verb agreement, 3. present tense: subject/verb agreement and stem-changing verbs, 4. direct object pronoun, 5. reflexive verbs, 6. present tense: subject/verb agreement and stem-changing verbs, 7. noun/adjective agreement, 8. ser/estar and hay, 9. present tense: present progressive, and 10. ser/estar and tener. Effect on the Program, Discipline or Course Based on the results of this assessment, will you revise your outcomes? If so, please summarize how and why in the boxes below. Reflexive verbs is an area to be reinforced in SPAN 111 online. To evaluate the online classes, we used the same assessment tool as the one used for the face-to-face classes, with the exception of core indicator #5 (reflexive verbs) due to a difference in programs between online and face-to-face. We wanted to see if there were differences between online and face-to-face classes. The assessment of face-to-face classes showed that noun/adjective agreement is an area to be reinforced in SPAN 111. We did not observe this in the online classes. The only subject that fell below a 70% accuracy level was reflexive verbs, which is not taught in SPAN 111 face-to-face classes (it is taught in SPAN 112). Therefore, we did not observe differences between the online and Program/Discipline/Course Assessment Report Discipline: Spanish Course Number: SPAN 111 (Online class) School/Unit: SOLA Submitted by: Gabriela Brochu Academic Year: 2010-2011 face-to-face classes. Nineteen (19) assessments were completed by two (2) online sections of SPAN 111. The average was 7.7 correct out of 10. Two (2) sections of SPAN 111 online were offered in fall 2010, and they were taught by the same instructor. The following indicates the number of times out of nineteen (19) an incorrect answer was chosen for items 1-10: 4 1. ser/estar, 3 2. present tense: subject/verb agreement, 2 3. present tense: subject/verb agreement and stem-changing verbs, 5 4. direct object pronoun, 7 5. reflexive verbs, 1 6. present tense: subject/verb agreement and stem-changing verbs, 5 7. noun/adjective agreement, 3 8. ser/estar and hay, 4 9. present tense: present progressive, and 2 10. ser/estar and tener. The next assessment tool for online SPAN 111 might focus primarily on reflexive verbs.
