Effect on Course
In the boxes below, summarize
the methods used to assess course
outcomes during the last year.
In the boxes below, summarize
the results of your assessment
activities during the last year.
In the boxes below, summarize
how you are or how you plan to
use the results to improve student
learning.
Based on the results of this
assessment, will you revise your
outcomes? If so, please
summarize how and why in the
boxes below:
Students completed a
"conceptual" and an
"application" quiz for chapter 7
(Leaming) and Chapter 13
(Psychological d isorders).
Mastery was defined as earning a
65% on each quiz. The average
of student's performance
(percentage of correct answers)
in all classes was compared with
the average of students'
performance in classes taught by
full-time (FT) and part-time (PT)
faculty.
In order to identify strengths and
weaknesses of curricula an item
analyses was conducted and the
results were examined in terms of
percentage of correct answers for
each question.
On chapter 7 conceptual quiz the
overall average (results from
students taught by full-time and
part-time faculty combined was
63%; students taught by FT had
an average of 66% and students
taught by PT had an average of
59%. The specific questions that
less than 65% of the students
answered correctly reflected
under-developed comprehension
on concepts described below.
Chapter 7 - Leaming:
conditioned and unconditioned
stimulus and responses in
classical conditioning; the role of
cognitive process in operant
conditioning; the difference
between positive and negative
reinforcement, and punishment;
intermittent schedules of
reinforcement, conditioned
Chapter 7 - Leaming has been
known as a "problem" content
area in psychology. Previous
assessment has shown that
students have difficulties
mastering theories of learning
specially operant conditioning
and schedules of reinforcement.
The results of fall 2012
assessment will be shared with
psychology faculty emphasizing
what areas our students need
support with.
The identified areas where
students did not master content
will be shared with faculty in an
effort to generate ideas and
support faculty improving
teaching methodology.
Psychology faculty will be
encouraged to develop expanded
content and/or instructional
methods to address these content
areas.

Full-time faculty should meet to
develop ideas and strategies on
how to support faculty to
improve teaching in these content
areas.
