LEAD Maryland Foundation, Inc.
Growth for a Future of Strength
Annual Report
From the President
Ken Korando
“Perhaps in
no time in
history has
the need for
leadership
been more
evident.”
The LEAD Maryland program is one of the most
vital educational programs in Maryland’s agriculture
today. As a graduate of the program and the first
Fellow to become President of the LEAD Maryland
Foundation, I can personally attest to the quality of
the LEAD Fellowship experience and to the impact
the program makes.
Perhaps in no time in history has the need for
leadership been more evident. Every day as I read
about issues that face agriculture as an industry and
a lifestyle in Maryland, I see the names of LEAD
Fellows at the forefront putting their leadership skills
to effective use, creating positive change.
At the end of the day leadership is a great deal about
volunteerism. LEAD Fellows give tremendous
amounts of volunteer service within their specific
industry sectors, their communities, and on the state
and national levels, giving their time and energy to
make for better tomorrows.
As our program continues to evolve, we have begun
new initiatives in our LEAD program to improve the
leadership skills education provided to Fellows. In
December 2012 we will host the Inaugural LEAD
Maryland Foundation Symposium to address the
“Image of Agriculture.” This symposium is being
created by the current LEAD Class. This symposium
offers Fellows a tremendous learning experience, and
the symposium will showcase the significant public
value of the LEAD Fellowship program.
I want to personally thank all of those who contribute
to this wonderful program and congratulate all
Fellows for their many successes.
Kenny Bounds was recognized at the LEAD Class
VI Graduation, March 26, 2011, for serving as the
Foundation’s president. Kenny shared reflections and
was presented a pewter Maryland Cup engraved with
the Foundation’s logo and inscribed as “Kenneth M.
Bounds; President; 2006-2011.” Thank you, Kenny,
for your service to LEAD Maryland Foundation!
