The quantification analysis of renal scintigraphy requires attenuation correction and absorption correction
because γ-ray emitted from kidney is decreased along the path to the detector by attenuation and
absorption. Tonneson and Taylor’s equation which are used to determine renal depth. Renal depth from
this equation are produced by the statistics value and calculated by the limited patient’s information such
as height, weight and age. Considering the various individual characteristics, the methods cannot be
applied accurately to the all patients. Besides, the determination of renal depth used CT(computed
tomography) and ultrasound makes patient be uncomfortable. In this study, we developed the calculation
method of renal depth only with renal scintigraphy considering attenuation factor in the conjugate-view
method. We maked abdomen and kidney phantoms and measured using technerium-99m
dimercaptosuccinin acid (99mTC-DMSA) and obtained image from SIEMENS gamma camera(E.CAM).
Renal depth is obtained by derived equation and counting rates and compared with the exact geometrical
value and proved effective method to obtain renal depth.
