First and 10 - Today’s Top Storylines
1) Liberty will play just the second Thursday night game in Williams Stadium history, hosting No. 4/4
Coastal Carolina on ESPNEWS in both teams’ 2015 regular-season finale. It will mark the rivals’ 13th
and final Big South Conference clash.
2) Liberty and Coastal Carolina have split their first 12 matchups, 6-6, with the last two meetings each
ending on a blocked field goal. See pages 3 and 22 for more on the series history.
3) The Flames, who are facing their second straight FCS Top 10 opponent, are 5-3 in their last eight
meetings against FCS Top 25 foes, including 1-1 in 2015.
4) Liberty will recognize a highly decorated 17-member senior class prior to kickoff on Thursday. See
page 3 for a complete list of the Flames’ seniors.
5) The Flames are 4-0 at Williams Stadium this year and are aiming to finish their first unbeaten season
at home since 2010. See page 4 for more on what a Liberty win would mean.
6) Coming off of a game where he had three tackles for a loss, Chima Uzowihe is two sacks shy away

7) A huge 13-catch night would enable Darrin Peterson to break the Big South career record of 223

8) Liberty’s Josh Woodrum and Coastal Carolina’s Alex Ross both rank among the top three for passing

9) Freshmen stepped up for Liberty Saturday at Charleston Southern, as Damian King threw a TD pass,

“4 Downs” with the Chan cleers
1 - Coastal Carolina is looking to finish with exactly one Big South loss for the fourth straight
season, in its final year of Big South football. The
Chan cleers are 17-4 in conference play since
the start of the 2012 campaign.
2 - Coastal Carolina senior QB Alex Ross and Liberty senior QB Josh Woodrum are two of the top
ac ve FCS signal callers as well as two of the best
in Big South Conference history. Woodrum is
the FCS ac ve leader with 10,004 career passing
yards and also owns the Big South career record.
Ross ranks third among ac ve FCS quarterbacks
with 9,178 passing yards and third in Big South
history. Ross and Woodrum have only started
against each other once previously (Oct. 19,
2013), combining for 676 yards and six TDs in a
55-52 Chan cleer victory.

A blocked field goal has ended each of the
last two Liberty-Coastal Carolina games. LaDarius Hawthorne blocked John Lunsford’s 40-yard
field goal a empt in double over me, sealing the
Chan cleers’ 55-52 victory at Williams Stadium
on Oct. 19, 2013. Chima Uzowihe then blocked
Alex Catron’s 24-yard try on Nov. 22, 2014, giving
the Flames a 15-14 victory in Conway.
4 - No. 4/4 Coastal Carolina is seeking its fourth
straight NCAA FCS Playoffs appearance. The
Chan cleers have won four total playoff games
during the past three seasons.

• Chima Uzowihe blocked a poten al game-winning 24-yard field goal as me expired, allowing
Liberty to punch its cket to the NCAA FCS Playoffs for the first me.
• The win was Liberty’s first-ever victory over a No.
1-ranked team in athle cs department history.
• The Flames’ offensive standouts included Stephon Masha (20-33, 285 yards, 1 TD), D.J. Abnar (35 carries, 122 yards), Gabe Henderson (10
catches, 114 yards) and Darrin Peterson (4 catches, 113 yards, 1 TD).
• John Lunsford’s 32-yard field goal with 1:20 remaining in the fourth quarter gave the Flames
the lead for good.
• Liberty limited Coastal Carolina to a season-low
312 yards of total offense. Alex Ross led the way,
passing 13-22 for 171 yards and a TD and totaling
60 yards on 15 carries.

1 - Desmond Rice and Josh Woodrum are each on
the verge of career touchdown milestones. Rice’s
next touchdown will be his 30th career TD, while
Woodrum is one TD pass shy of 60. Woodrum
would become the second Liberty QB and the
third Big South QB ever to reach the milestone.
2/3 - Chima Uzowihe needs 2 sacks to break the
Big South single-season record of 9.5 sacks, set
by former teammate Toby Onyechi in 2014. Additionally, three tackles for a loss would enable
Uzowihe to tie the Liberty career record of 45,
set by Aaron DeBerry (2000-03).

Chris Turner has tallied three interceptions
during his freshman season. His next pick will
make him the first Liberty freshman with four interceptions in a season since Randall State had
four as a freshman in 1998.

ing the second kicker in program history and the
third kicker in Big South annals with 300 career
points.

Darrin Peterson needs 13 catches to break
the Big South career record of 223 receptions,
held by Gardner-Webb’s James Perry III. Peterson
