Strategies for Success
• Once a desired industry is selected, set up an internship or part-time job in the
chosen field to begin to gain experience.
• If graduate school is in your future, make sure and protect your GPA to position
yourself better to get into the school you are pursuing.
• Volunteer in various age groups, both young and the elderly, to assess which is
the best age group for you personally.
• Join associations and affiliations while in school to strengthen the resume and
show dedication to the chosen field.
• Seek out entry-level positions to gain more experience.
• Invest in CPR/First Aid certification to be more marketable.
• Consider adding a Master’s degree in Elementary Education licensure degree to
broaden your field.
• Match a relevant minor with your FACD major, like business, psychology or
special education to have a broader knowledge base.
• Research additional training in Partnering with Parents or other state certifications
in parent education and social work.
• Consider advanced degrees in Counseling or Social Work, or specialized training
to be more marketable in your field.
• Select CSER and volunteer activities that will develop more skills and gain
experience throughout your academic years.
• Consider learning a foreign language in order to reach more people and become
more marketable.
