AbstractID: 7447 Title: Dosimetric Investigations of Leaf Sequencing Parameters
A dosimetrically based leaf-sequencing algorithm has been developed and implemented for multileaf collimated intensity modulated
radiotherapy. The algorithm is an extension of the algorithm published by Bortfeld et al. for the segmental MLC-IMRT method (SMLC-IMRT).
The developed algorithm, implemented in the software named MLC_Trans, extends the published algorithm in terms of dosimetric considerations
and includes dynamic MLC-IMRT method (DMLC-IMRT). The algorithm accounts for MLC transmission and minimizes the leakage between
opposing and neighboring leaves. The problem associated with the tongue-and-groove design of the MLC, called tongue-and-groove effect, is
also addressed in the algorithm. The purpose of this study is the dosimetric investigation of the leaf sequencing parameters of the implemented
leaf sequencing algorithm. The results of dosimetric investigations show that the sequencing parameters affect the measured dose distribution as
intended.
